Coeur fidèle

The sequences at the docks and the carnival really are striking, with noteworthy montage editing and some interesting ideas . As the plot continues into material that doesn't fit the tone quite as well, the painfully slow pacing and strangely stylized performances start to wear thin. I almost wonder if this could have just ended right before the one year jump 40 minutes in, and been a better film for it.

A simple story, elevated by Epstein's poetic montage and striking compositions.

Coeur fidele estreava há 100 anos na França. Proto exemplar do realismo poético francês, Epstein tem um senso de mise en scène perfeito. RARBG.

The story is nothing special and the gossiping neighbour as a diabolous ex machina is fucking awful device, but the epilogue is such a great scene I can't rate it lower.

Chilling ending

while the movie is overshadowed by one particularly great scene (in the carnival), the rest of it is still good enough. the photography is particularly excellent, and mostly makes up for an average and simplistic story.

An engaging but unoriginal story, set slightly above the rest with it's advanced editing and camerawork. The carnival scenes are especially exhilarating.
