Possibly Ceylan's simplest, most crystalline film, and one of his best, Climates is the chronicle of a breakup. Ceylan the photographer astounds, and several shots in the film are simply genius - even more impressive considering that he is acting in front of the camera and cannot look at the monitor. His psychological insight is just as photographic. Though dialogue is characteristically sparse, much is gleaned from gestures and facial expressions. Ebru's performance is marvelous.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan's follow-up to Distant is similarly languid, and more artsy than art. You don't have to wait long for an interesting-looking shot, but you could wait quite some time for it to end.

You know a movie is intense when you don't see the screen couple together for the most of the time, but their relationship is still one of the driving forces.

Pure minimalism and cinematic invention mixed with Bergman in terms of psychology, Antonioni in terms of distorted and alienated mise-en-scenes, Ozu in terms of formal strictness and distance, Bresson in terms of narrative elipsis. Beautiful landscapes and a film which digs in the depths of human soul slowly but deeply.

NBC'nin Batılılardan ödül almak için çektim diye bas bas bağıran bomboş bir filmi, hayal kırıklığı.

Quite solid as a movie, but with so many empty shots of NBC staring into space, the substance falls a bit short.

This might be the Ceylan's simplest movie yet it shows us complex nature of relationship between Man and Woman. Isa represented a narcissistic "intelectual" while Bahar was the emotional side at this movie. Ceylan again showed his Photographer part, I especially liked the sea scene. Overall I will not rate this as Ceylan's best work because of poor acting from him but I think this movie plays a good role in his development as a film maker. 10/10 would watch again :)

Why the weakness of a relationship is how dynamic it may grow, our innermost self, lives on with the unresolved emotions. How two polarizing characters may find distance, but forever be connected, the frightening mirror we look at is within mother nature. Ceylan's work remains simple and elegant with beautiful scenery.

(Viewed on 12/01/11): Ebru Ceylan is her husband's key collaborator, and she gives an exquisite performance as a vulnerable woman trying to salvage the wreck of her relationship with a selfish man who lacks empathy and self awareness. The man is played by Nuri who is OK but pales next to his wife whose emotions are the centre of gravity that grounds the film when Nuri gets mired in pointless affectation. The extended close ups of her sad face are extraordinary and intensely intimate.

Kadın erkek ilişkilerinin postmodern çağda nasıl yabancılaştığını anlatan ve sinematoğrafik açıdan gayet başarılı bulduğum bir yapım. Film eksiklerini görselliklerle sanatsal bir şekilde doldurmuş.

Probably the prettiest film in HD yet, it shook me pretty hard, even if I didn't identify with the male character very much. He seemed like an asshole, and I had no idea that he was the director and something of an egoist in real life, but it was pretty easy to pick up on through his performance. From her first scene, the mistress absolutely dominated the film, and the final lie from the man to his wife about said mistress was made even more powerful because of it.

Ceylan's style does appeal to me, but I didn't like this one quite as much as Distant. The film is terrific at establishing a pensive mood of disillusionment and slowly exploring the characters. There's some incredible images and even some nice bits of humor. But the analagous use of the weather seemed really obvious. And after a while the film seems to meander... not that the scenes themselves aren't important to the narrative, just that you start to gradually care less and less.

12 Ekim 09. & baharin gelmedigi hatta belki de isanin kalbinde hic olmadigi film. sonda bahar kaybolur * yok olur ve film boyunca iklimler arasinda dolanan filmde hic bir zaman 'bahar' gorunmez.

A beautiful, contemplative film about a completely self-absorbed and controlling professor, and the rocky, on and off relationship with his emotionally vulnerable girlfriend. The film works hard to solidify the man's domineering, selfish status in a variety of compelling ways.
