More luminous and offbeat than most recent HSS films, but also a less complex one. Huppert's characters acts almost as a film director photographing the girl fired from the job after sleeping with the director -- her boss is his wife -- and making remarks about how an image affects us -- we are always someone else later -- and how we should look closely and slowly at things to better understand them. Beach scenes are pure bliss. Great dog.

Can art and artists bring meaningful good to the world? Light, airy, and enlivened by Huppert, whose character's camera brings these people together. The true-life background to this film does make the sentiments feel a bit hollow.

Any film with both Isabelle Huppert and Kim Min-hee is going to at least be captivating while they are on screen, which is indeed the case here. Sang-soo weaves an interesting, entertaining but uneven story about relationships - both long term and new - and the film industry. The short running time is no issue for Sang-soo, indeed it is one of his greatest strengths as a director.

"you're so pretty" sounds so much nicer when isabelle huppert says it instead of some sad drunk creep

A kind of vacation movie set in the midst of the Cannes Film Festival, Claire's Camera follows one woman whose life seems to be falling apart, and another who manages to hold hers together through photography; their chance meeting seems to change their respective lives, in that subtle and insightful way that has become Hong Sang-soo's specialty.

Since I saw my last Hong movie in January this year, Hong already made 3(!) more. Although his seemingly effortless style still produces composed Rohmer-esque movies, one might wish Hong would take a little more time to flesh out his plot and characters.
