I don't have the time or the energy to come up with a line to put in here joking about a well hung priest.

More Fulci nonsense. Ludicrous plotting, curious performances, and a couple of garishly gory set pieces. That said, I have a soft spot for Fulci's work; there are always some good ideas under the suface, occasionally some decent execution, and he occasionally manages to summon up some atmospheric moments. This is no exception. Would probably be appreciated by fans of his other work, but others should approach with caution.

Maggot storms, drills to the head, and a severe case of indigestion are the high points of one of Fulci's most skin crawling creations. Once again, the plot and pacing aren't anything to write home about, but there are several set pieces that are enough fun to overlook the clunky narrative.

Another zombie movie from Italian director Lucio Fulci that serves merely as set-up to exhibit some disturbing gore. There is some decent atmosphere and a few creepy moments, but it's mostly just to serve the gore. Unfortunately despite how graphic and intense these gory moments were, they were not enough to make up for the rest of the movie's failings. Tack on to that its questionable ending, and you get a passable yet disappointing horror movie.

So poorly paced it manages to feel like a 3-hour film. The distinctly Fulci moments of delirium are quite nice, but it takes for-fucking-ever to get to them, and it all lacks the feverish oneiric haze of his more interesting movies. I'm one of the biggest Fulci apologists around and I really struggled through this one.

One Lucio Fulci's better zombie schlockers, this is a little slow paced but has a handful of simply awesome gore scenes. The bit with Giovanni Radice getting his head impaled on a huge drill press is classic. Sadly, most of the zombies don't show up until almost the very end, and they're not very scary. The climactic fire stunt is particularly unimpressive, but it's still a ton of maggoty fun.

A disjointed style and oddly paced film still manages get great horror sequences out of a simple plot. If you can stomach it this still is must watch for Fulci fans.

Passes the time but has a very impressive special effect on a murder scene which makes this worth watching.

One of Fulci's creepiest, but not best. As with all of his movies, the budget seems to go to 48% special effects, 48% music and 2% to everything else you need in a movie.

Fulci reaches into his bag of tricks and pulls out...wait, ummm, nothing? This movie takes about an hour to get moving and, once it gets to full speed, still doesn't have any real power. The gore factor is cheesy, boring and sparse, and the worst part is the sloppy writing--I'm not exactly sure that this movie made any sense.

Seriously, really? Why is Lucio Fulci well regarded? With all due respect to the memory, he couldn't direct one way traffic. The practical effects are ridiculous, the story makes no sense, the reaction shots are hilarious, the overdubbing is atrocious, and it's not even that watchable to make fun of it. Ugh, man, what utter rubbish.

When it tries, it tries REALLY hard, and it's pretty fucking hysterical for that. Still, there's bits of a legitimately interesting, creepy horror film buried beneath the incessant comical overreaching. Dub is especially shit, but I doubt anyone seeking out Fulci really cares. Frizzi's score is outstanding, even out of context, and you can find the soundtrack album easily if you don't want to actually sit through a Fulci flick.

I could never love Fulci. His films seem unremittingly nasty while avoiding anything I would deem 'artistic' in substance. All the same, he often delivers visceral experiences that are far more competently executed than the vast bulk of vintage Italian exploitation trash. This one benefits in being full of memorable imagery and features some impressive gore scenes. I think I like it when he does supernatural horror more than slasher.

I'll put it this way. Lots of guys ... lots of Italians in particular ... can throw a lot of gore at the screen. Some do it very artfully. Some barely string together something resembling a film. Fulci may not be Dario Argento, but he sure ain't Bruno Mattei either. This films delivers maggot storms and girls puking up their intestines all within the confines of a pretty good looking spooky little film.

While the plot is muddled & ultimately doesn't make a whole lot of sense, the basic idea is interesting & having two main storylines happening throughout the first half was a nice touch. There are definitely some memorable moments here & plenty of over-the-top gore, but also a few samey kills & a third act that drags a bit. The performances are decent, with Christopher George being delightfully sleazy in his role. It's not without flaws, but is still pretty entertaining for what it is.

The score is brilliant but the film is just all over the place, with scenes included purely to showcase Fulci's brand of absurd violence, with little regard to the minimal logic of the plot. The effect is boring rather than shocking or scary.

These are not your average zombies; they don't really eat people, they teleport, and they prefer to kill their prey by squeezing the brains out of the backs of their heads. There are a couple of great sequences built into a foundation of utter nonsense.

Fulci's films are largely impervious to conventional criticism. It just doesn't make sense to expect a coherently structured narrative, well written dialogue or traditionally good performances from his films. His trademark neuroticism lent a fundamental imbalance to his work that must be accepted or rejected on its own terms. C.O.T.L.D is a typically crazed effort from the godfather of gore that features plenty of memorable gross out moments and an intense finale in a colourful cobwebbed crypt.

The dialogue is garbage, and the whole thing is a gorefest, but despite those points against it it's still better than the other two Fulci I've seen this month. It's appropriately scary when it needs to be and the narrative actually makes some amount of sense.

Despite the simple plot and sluggish pace this makes pretty much no sense at all. Still I find Fulci's work very watchable mostly due to the reliable peaks of atmosphere and gore and overall unusual style in a generic setting. This is probably the weakest of the "gates of hell" trilogy but still recommended for fans of cheap Italian horror.

A priest's suicide leads to the mysterious death of a woman involved in a seance. This suicide opens the gates of hell and the woman's death is just the starting point that will send two people to the town of Dunwich to close those gates. City of the Living Dead falls apart in the final 20 minutes, but before that is one of the most atmospherically rich and bone chilling of horror movies with an effectively eerie soundtrack. Cheap zombie make-up and a disappointing end make it hard to recommend.

Living Dead was a distributor tag added to ride the wave of LD film successes. The original Fulci/Argento title "City of the Risen Lost" is far more fitting to the film. On it's own; yet another great Italian film from the era of blood, guts, and gore.

Gothic zombie flick from the master of gore Lucio Fulci. Story is very basic, just an excuse to show juicy bits. And by juicy bits I mean woman vomiting her intestines out or powerdrill going through the face. Apart from gore, lighting and cinematography plays a big role in my enjoyment of this flick. Cast is good, these actors look like they were born to act in Italian horror. Soundtrack is very enjoyable on its own - a mix of Tangerine Dream-esque synths and Japanese videogame themes.

For all of its obvious plot holes this managed to be one of the only horror films that felt intense and legitimately nightmarish in its presentation for me, a twisted Gothic tale brought to screen. Even for its lack of logic it made a hell of a lot more sense than other films of its kind (including others by Fulci). Most people will find a lot of problems with this, especially the tacked on ending, but I was completely gripped by it.

Fulci's graphic follow-up to his successful _Zombie_ is just as gory, if not more so, but not as satisfying. Lots of intestine barfing and head drilling. Best scene: George rescuing a prematurely buried MacColl from her sealed coffin, his pickax coming dangerously close to her head as it smashes through the coffin lid.
