Viewed March 13, 2021. Interestingly, the tension in the film never quite erupts; certain characters face tragic fates, but there's never that moment of violence where all of these conflicting forces finally run up against one another. That kind of anticlimax is realistic, and also perhaps the entire point Sayles is trying to make: everyone in this town, even the council member and the wealthy real estate developer, ultimately falls prey to the same system.

Vida de Cidade estreava há 30 anos no Festival de Sundance. O filme mantêm uma pegada política potente por toda a extensão, mas o final como cereja do bolo triplica sua envergadura. WEBRip RARBG.

One of the better network narratives out there. And as many has noted, fans of 'The Wire' definitely need to check this out. Morton and Strathairn stand out, and the latter's delivery of the last line of the film - as well as the thematic and symptomatic meaning of the ending - stayed with me.

They shoulda called this "Soft Focus City" because that's what's on the camera's lens from start to finish. Great ensemble movie that is filled with contemptible characters with noble causes, endearing selfish pricks and the poor saps caught up in between. Everyone's got a reason for what they do, and the trail they lead is followed until it's just about resolved, but with enough room to leave the audience guessing what happens next.

Fine work from Sayles as usual. Good ensemble cast, engaging interweaving plot lines, much quotable dialogue
