Meg Ryan is introduced riding a bike in LA and I'm supposed to be surprised when I learn how she dies. Please, angels hang out at the Central Library, last time I was there a septuagenarian was searching trap porn on the computer in the lobby I can only imagine a Nic Cage angel trying to give loving Spirit vibes leaning on his shoulder thinking, this is it this is the last old smelly dude I'm gonna give everything up for one night with Meg Ryan and, yeah, I guess that makes sense.

From the music to the absurdity in which the plot unfolds, City of Angels cements itself as a 90's movie. Cage and Ryan deliver good enough performances, while Braugher is underused (though I'm basing this off his role as Captain Holt on BB99). The film itself is alright, with a decent premise that doesn't quite manage to deliver on its theme of free will nor Cage's life as a human though its portrayal of angels was interesting. Its final moral on life is incredibly heavy-handed.

Nic Cage plays a homeless man who thinks he's an angel. He hangs around construction sites, wears the same scabby clothes every day, hangs around with other clearly homeless men, looks and converses like a maniac and has a healthy obsession with pears. Nick Offerman's cameo is ace too. That's the good part. The poor plot progression that went in a dozen different directions with the poorer character development ruin this. 3 minutes into the film I was crying like a baby but it went down after.

Sweet and poignant, drags a bit, but a truly Holywood tragedy. Much less artistic but more accessible and immediately entertaining than the Wim Wenders German slow-moving film that inspired it. Just a straight up Holywood tragic romance with moments of dark humor and a surpising amount of artistry.

A shit bomb. However a funny story attached to this. I was watching this with my father who had sat down randomly to watch it. He was trying to get my mother to come in to watch it by saying it is such a feel good film, of course right after he says this Meg Ryan dies, and the look on his face is priceless. I dont think I've seen him more mad at a movie.

Eerie and shadowy, the angels in this movie are completely different than anyI've seen before. They observe and critique mankind. Yet in some cases, they yearn to be human. This is one of my all time favorite films, and some of Nick Cage's best work. The whole cast from Meg Ryan (yum) through Dennis Franz (awesome), to Andre Braugher (wow) is fantastic. Incredible soundtrack!

If you buy what this movie is selling, you may have a better time; discarding memories of the great Wenders film (of which this is a remake in a very abstract sense), this is oddly unpleasant, with Cage's intense mooning over Ryan more creepy than romantic. Biggest problem may be the miscasting of the two stars who don't do romantic passion well; if the film focused more on the angel's desire for humanity, rather than attempting a full-tilt, gushy romance, this may have been more successful.

This movie has been out for a pretty long time, and I've heard a lot about it over the years, and I've only gotten around to it now. It's not bad. There's a lot of fantastic shots of angels...just...observing the world and the hurting. As for the romance...it's not bad at all. I always look for a different way to tell the same old song and dance - what impossible hurdle will you have to overcome....to find that love? This movie answers that question pretty well

This movie just really made me want to see what the original is like. What could totally work for a darkly humorous, weird Wenders flick just ends up being schizophrenic and bizarre in a Hollywood remake with a-list stars.

Great actors look like they are not even trying. When Cage, a great actor, looks like he is not trying it is because he is n't. Unless strutting one step behind your left shoulder determinedly is. A great sentimental touching film if you let it come to you without too much attention.

I have reached the puke-level with this one quite soon after the nicely done opening scene. Cage is retarded as always, Ryan is even worse. The movie is overly dramatic typical romantic bullshit with few beautifully shoot scenes, fitting score by Yared and... that's all.

It has been a long time since I have seen this one but, I remember wiping my eyes a couple of times due to the dust in my eyes. It is a sad tell and truly depressing at points. Nic Cage is a great actor that can play in almost any role, he just makes bad decisions sometimes. This movie is lofty and full of intricate webs of drama and romance. Leaving someone to wonder if you were an angel what would you do.

Nick Cage is a good actor, Meg Ryan is a good actress, the direction and writing in this film is good, but the one thing that made this movie get such low marks by me is the horrendously cheesy and badly written ending, the movie would have been better off with a happily ever after.
