An adventure film with Benshi performers. Sometimes considered the ‘first Japanese feature film’, it survives today as a compilation of scenes from various different 1910s adaptations totaling nearly three hours in length. The bulk of the content comes from the 1911 adaptation by legendary Japanese filmmaker Makino Shozo.

While Chûshingura [The Loyal 47 Ronin] (1910) is by many considered the first Japanese feature film, it's technically not. It's a collection of short films made over several years piled together. Sort of like a TV-series, where new episodes would come out on a regular basis. Very theatrically stage drama for the most part. Not too much going on. It's the type of film where it's best you know the 47 Ronin story going in, because you don't get too much help.
