I guess I didn't find it as great as everyone else as a number of the jokes simply fell flat. However it's not like National Lampoon's latest stuff which is almost all garbage. It's great some fantastic jokes and I absolutely lost it when Chevy Chase simply lets loose about his jerk of a boss in front of his family. The movie is worth seeing for that scene alone.

This doesn't really work very well as a full film. Lots of small scenes when, taken as a whole, fail to do the comedy any justice. The movie didn't flow well, jarringly moving from one segment to another. It's still a decent holiday film, and deserves to be watched, but there are better options available.

My personal favorite Christmas comedy. It's a classic, because whether you're watching with extended family or your two best buds, everyone'll laugh their asses off and end up with a smile on their face by the end.

Brainwashed fans - swayed by a nostalgic rewatch too many, perhaps - believe this to be a quality film. (Heads up: a drinking game has been proved to help non-converts through it.)

This is truly one of the funniest films ever. I've probably seen more than any other movie (I watch it probably three times a year every December). I know all the jokes, quips, mannerisms and give-and-takes which are supposed to make this a funny movie and it only adds to my enjoyment of it. Even when I watch it during non-Christmas time I find it hilarious. Once you watch it once odds are you'll be popping it in your DVD player around the 25th of December every year.

What makes this film a Christmas classic, is that every scene is so easily remembered. Whether it's a touching moment, a ridiculous moment, or a fantasy moment, the movie never gets bogged down by useless filler. Not to mention it has Chevy Chase delivering one of the best rants in film history. So sit back, grab some hot cocoa, stuff your face with cookies and enjoy the hap-hap happiest holiday film since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye!

The perfect Christmas film. It's basically a bunch of loosely-related sketches that combine to make a film about one man's quest to have the perfect Christmas despite continued adversity from others.

This is mildly amusing if you want some tv fodder to throw on for the holidays. This was Chevy Chase's last foray into mainstream success before he was relegated to the hollywood shitheap pile. Seeing Chevy Chase get knocked around with boards, staple his hand, and do three stooges-esque type material is worth it I guess. A lot of this is just super dated late 80's slapstick comedy though. The old people jokes and dinner scenes probably made this memorable.

Unfuckwithable. Easily the strongest of the Vacation franchise, it's an irreplacable part of Christmas tradition for me - I can quote it forwards and backwards but it never gets old. Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid are both on top form (that neither would ever regain, alas..)

Tradition watchability every Christmas for my household, and why shouldn't it be? Christmas Vacation is outrageous in the gags, which works for the most part, and I like Chevy Chase in these movies. If you haven't seen this, you haven't lived.

One of the best Christmas movies of all time. I'm not a huge Christmas person but this movie is a must-watch during my holidays. Chase is just so hilarious in this especially some of his classic lines he uses towards his neighbors Todd and Margo. It was also cool to see Big Bang's Johnny Galecki as Rusty. I also loved Juliette Lewis as the daughter. The person that really shined in this was Randy Quaid. He is so perfect in the part he plays. Merry Christmas, $hitters full!

This gets better and it's one of the few Christmas films that I can re-watch every couple of years. Some parts are a bit outdated or work more as nostalgia, but most of it still works in this day and age and captures something universal about the holidays. One of Chevy Chase's best and they have a nice chemistry with D'Angelo. I'm not sure if the kidnapping of the boss side plot was really needed, but it does provide a hilarious meltdown scene. It was also nice to see that the kids enjoyed this.

Beverly D'Angelo is the underrated hero of this (playing it hilariously straight even as everyone around her flails for laughs), but overall it doesn't really pick up until Eddie, and then the old aunt and uncle, show up. Eddie places Chase in more of a straight man role, and the ensuing passive aggressive responses suit his style so well (and much better than the falls and slapstick of the earlier portion of the film).

And this is WITH a good deal of bonus points for fuzzy nostalgia. It's not really that well made...or funny. Alot of the almost subversive (I'm reaching with that word, I realize this) humor of the original is replaced with fluff and a surprising amount of sap. But still, I have a weak spot for it and if I happen to flip by TBS in mid-December and it's on, I'll stick with it until the end, almost out of some sort of holiday-mandated duty.

Christmas Vacation is a perfect Christmas movie. The story is funny and relateable. It is one of those movies that you can always watch whenever you find it on TV. Not a year goes by that I don't need to watch this movie to get me into the Christmas spirit. Randy Quaid is forever mentioned in my family for being very much like many of the people in the small town my father is from. Chevy Chase is every white suburban father that has ever existed.

I will always have a bit of a soft spot for this film for nostalgic reasons. I love this movie. Along with Elf, the Ron Howard Grinch, and Scrooged, this is one of my favorite holiday movies. I have to watch it at least once a year. Chase is great here and makes a very likable lead, as well as the rest of the Griswold family. Randy Quaid is kind of an insane guy, not unlike his character Cousin Eddy lol. Definitely give this a try if you like holiday comedies. I give 8 squirrels out of 10.

Something about this Vacation installment's family Christmas/home for the holidays premise grounds and glues it together unlike any of the others, and puts it a step above. Finally solid acting for Russ and Audrey helps too-and with Chase in his best turn as the ambitious and high-strung Clark, and D'Angelo solid again as his pacifier, the family has consistently humourous chemistry dotted with some great quirky cameos that makes great use of the relatable Christmas chaos setting.

Christmas Vacation is one of 5 sequels in the National Lampoon's Vacation franchise, and it's easily the best one. It may not eclipse the first Vacation movie, but with its holiday theme, it stands on its own. It's a timeless classic that continues to hold up today, and it has managed to stand as one of the best Christmas movies, as well as one of the funniest movies of all-time.

This movie never was a part of holiday programming in my country, so unlike for many other people here it holds no nostalgic value for me. There are a few laughs to be had, but this National Lampoon's type of humor is a bit too mean and simple for my taste. I never liked Chevy Chase either. Consumerism is one of the most important family values in this film.

The worst of the Vacation movies. This film really is not funny at all. Way too much reliance on slapstick, with hardly any clever situational comedy, and the casting of the kids is a disaster in this one (why didn't they stick with the kids from European Vacation, which were excellent?). This is an extremely poor follow-up to the vastly superior European Vacation.

I seriously don't understand why these films are so widely loved, could be a cultural thing. Slapstick is a genre that never fails to make me wonder what its artistic and/or entertaining qualities actually are - it has always felt to me like a cop out instead of writing quality comedy (which is damn hard), a silent-era relic (works in theater, however). When slapstick goes hand in hand with unrealistic scenarios that fail to hit any comedic notes it starts to look like B-movie material to me.
