A moving slice-of-life--a very narrow slice. It really gets at the main character's isolation and loneliness, without manipulation or pity. This movie is probably too quiet--and, yes, a bit bleak--for some, but I loved it.

This blue Christmas film - quiet, low-key, isolated, nocturnal - is of ordinary character and workaday rhythm. It is made with restraint and authenticity, unaccompanied by outward festivity and holiday kitsch, allowing its spirit of renewal to land affectionately.

If you're fan of mumblecore/micro-indy films and you're looking for a Christmas movie, this one is for you. Think a Christmas version of The Exploding Girl or Quiet City. While the films avoidance of typical fireworks will bore most mainstream viewers, it's what also infuses ordinary moments of happiness with an impact that would not be otherwise felt. Liked the Kentucker Audley and Hannah Gross in this as well.

this is one of those stubbornly small independent movies stuffed with talent if not necessarily ambition. debut director (excellent nevertheless), but you've got the cinematographer from LISTEN UP PHILIP and HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT, robert greene on the editing, a gloriously restrained central performance from kentucker audley (SUN DON'T SHINE actor, OPEN FIVE director). you won't find many more exquisitely observed christmas movies.
