Christ Stopped at Eboli

Like Fellini's Amarcord, this is a love letter to small towns that somehow just keep going with their odd superstitions/traditions and quirky characters. While the four-hour version is a little long, viewers must act like Don Carlo and let it sink in.

The premise is every bit as basic as reflected by the synopsis, and yet, over quite a long running time, this film wearing its banal anti-fascist, pro-socialist politics on its sleeve manages to be simply excellent. It's all in the details, and well, Volonte always helps, and lest I forget - the dog Barone really steals the show for a while.

yapım dönemini her yönüyle yansıtıyor -özellikle finalde her şeyi bağlama amaçlı tartışmayla. ama bu metninin hala işlerliği olmadığı anlamına gelmiyor. biraz fazla romantik olsa da hala çok önemli şeyleri sürükleyici biçimde görselleştiriyor rosi fakat neredeyse 4 saate ihtiyaç var mıydı bunun için o apayrı bir tartışma konusu. *aydın* meselesinden ulusal politik çıkmazlara kadar bağlantılı ve çeşitli çok konuda referans olacak bir iş yine de.

Affectionate and kind of wrinkly poetic. There's so many stunning images (and some striking tracking shots) here, expressing a sense of abyssal desolation in all the humanity and warmth Rosi set up. Quite a film.
