Pretty weak story, but the explosive action more than makes up for the slow start. Jeeja Yanin is a potential superstar.

An autistic girl learns martial arts from movies and then goes to collect money for her mom who has cancer or something. I think her mom used to be in a gang? Whatever, the action is really cool(she does all her own stunts, of course) and it gets bonus points for having a female lead.

A beguiling combination of Jackie Chan-esque martial arts (creative use of locations, wild stunts, violence laced with humor) and medical melodrama. It's that goofy clash of genres that only Asia seems to produce. It's hugely refreshing to see a martial arts film starring a woman.

The plot is idiotic and the acting bad even by Thai martial arts film standards, and the fights themselves are weirdly motivated: for most of the film she's not beating up evil henchmen, but employees, which makes her seem like a total asshole. The film willingly compares itself to Ong-Bak, and it's not a flattering comparison; it doesn't reach those heights of comical brutality until the amazing iconic final showdown on the side of a building, for which I bumped up the score a couple of points.

It's Thai, meaning old school martial arts movie rules: no doubles, no wires, no safety. The action is superb, violent, and most of all, unflinchingly real. The story isn't anything to oogle about, but it's not terrible, despite some cheesiness. Watch for action, you action junkie.

The first 35 minutes is painful, soap opera level nonsense. It does get better once the stunts get crazier, with an incredible (almost video game-like) finale. Still, too much melodrama that sucks away the sense of fun. And I was unsure whether to laugh or feel ashamed at seeing a fight between two more or less mentally handicapped characters near the end.

"Chocolate" is the Thai version of "The Transporter", essentially. Much like "Ong-Bak", the story has little to no purpose in the film, instead focusing on the incredible fight choreography. The martial artistry is unlike anything you've seen before, unless you've seen "Ong-Bak", but it's not worth sitting through the cringe-inducingly bad story. It's almost insulting how bad it is. I would rather that they outright steal the story from "Bloodsport" for the sake of showing of the fighting.

Every single one of the 76 points I award is for the fighting skills and stunt abilities of JeeJa Yanin. Most other aspects of this film - the acting, the story, the flashbacks, the visuals - were appalling and quite painful to watch. Prachya Pinkaew took a big step backwards in his career following Ong Bak, which was solid on most levels. Great fights though!

80 of these points goes to the action in this movie, which is absurd, and the best thing ever. There's a better cut of this movie somewhere which is just this girl kicking the a, b, and the rest of the alphabet-jesus out of people.

Not as good as Ong-Bak but few things are. I like how hey tried to imitate other performances in kung-fu films. The "ooOO-Aaahs" after each blow in the ice factory fight for example. Plot ain't much but when is it ever.

From the director of Ong Bak and starring a new 23 year old female action protege that has the same fierceness and commanding presence that Tony Jaa had in ONG BAK, CHOCOLATE is just an ass kicking good time. After a slow first half hour and a weak story, the film kicked it into top gear with its insane stunts and strong fight choreography. Fight fans rejoice, pick this one up!

A daughter tries to help and defend her mother when she falls ill and needs money for her treatments. It really gives you what it promises, a young woman kicking ass in so many fights. There aren't any really dull moments here and I was impressed by the amount of different fights that they were able to include in this one. It's simple, but it works and I loved the Bruce Lee homages here.

Almost all martial arts movies are dominated by males, therefore it's refreshing to see a female kicking ass for a change. Enter the Thai girl, Yanin Vismitananda in her debut, "Chocolate". This is a movie made purely for fans of action movies and a celebration of the beauty of the fight form.

One of the best martial arts movies, because the action is never over-the-top. But the story is kinda shaky (how come the whole city seems to be in debt to this family?)

What a sack of garbage. Not only is the plot (and most of the acting) asinine, but these must be the most overrated action scenes ever, combining sluggish movement with spastic editing. I read that the star only trained for a month and had no prior martial arts experience, and I'm certainly not surprised. Yeah, she did her own "stunts," but if you watch the end credit outtakes, you'll see that they mostly consisted of falling on her ass and accidentally punching her coworkers in the face.

If Chocolate isn't the best martial arts movie of the last decade, it is a close runner. The plot is forgettable and borderline offensive, but only serves as a means to the excellent, excellent fight sequences. The choreography is top notch, the execution is tight, and the filmography is clear and brutal. The ridiculously long final battle is worth the price of admission alone.

A movie with a massive amount of untapped potential, but I can't say it isn't anything other than very enjoyable. The horrible first 20 minutes with its endless slow-motion gazes to camera almost put me off, but JeeJa Yanin is worth holding out for. The action scenes each paying homage to movies and stars of the past are brilliantly clever. A movie in which its many faults are more than balanced out by its pure entertainment value. Leave your inner critic at the door for this one!

This is, of course, all about the action. And holy shit does this lady kick a crazy amount of ass. The end scene strikes me as too over-the-top, but the slaughterhouse fight, the rooftop/pipes fight, the balconies at the end... madness!

Complete nonsense, but the fantastic homage martial arts scenes make in an enjoyable watch. Just don't watch the credit outtakes unless you have a thing for seeing actors receiving emergency medical treatment. They don't take the safe route in Thailand.

To repeat every other reviewer, the story leaves much to be desired. But the main actress is badass and the fact that the movie shows various painful injuries sustained during the making of is enough to make it worthwhile. She's fun to watch.

How the team behind "Warrior King", the best martial arts movie of all time, lowered themselves to THIS, I'll never know. It's nice to see such a talented female lead in a film like this but Yanin can't save "Chocolate" from being incredibly dull. It is worth a watch however for the incredible finale which I believe lasts for a whole 20/30 minutes.

This is such a weird film. I really enjoyed it; there were good martial arts scenes (some botchamania looks to have made it in, ouch!), a unique story that makes you go WTF, and overall a good sense of character growth and development. Even though the lead is autistic, it handles the condition in an intriguing way that isn't condescending at all. Actually, it probably might give you an idea to raise some kind of army for yourself. This was fun.

Okay, so the action is pretty cool, but it's not good enough to change the fact that every time people aren't fighting in this movie (aka, the first thirty minutes and still quite a bit afterwards), this movie is a fuckin turd. Utter nonsense. Score is not a grade.

This film was just amazing in every way. The story is gripping, the telling leaving you feeling what they feel. The background, the premise, the martial arts, stunts make many HK films look weak. A bit slow to start, with the backstory; but once it gets going it's a never ending ride
