There are some absolutely legendary songs but the length is oppressive, especially for a story that is otherwise underdeveloped. But Dick Van Dyke is nothing less than a national treasure and you can't convince me otherwise.

It's charming but just flat out interminable, why is this so movie so friggin' long!?

The book (by Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond) is much, much better -- which is not to say that this isn't what it is -- a charming fantasy musical for the whole family that succeeds simply by looking great and taking us to wonderfully beautiful locations. MUST be seen in widescreen -- avoid the original DVD release at ALL COSTS!

This is a bizarre film. It's one of those movies that ends up being good even though it makes litterally no sense whatsoever. It's disjointed, and the plot is.. What is the plot, anyway? It actually manages to have one plot for the first hour and then throw this to the winds and suddenly try to be a whole other movie. Who knows what's going on, but in any case it's just good old childish fun with catchy songs and ridiculous things happening all around. Far too long, of course.

Children so annoying you end up rooting for the child-catcher.

It’s slow, dated, and the theme song is nightmarishly catchy, but the actors are charismatic and have solid chemistry. Pretty sure the kids are actually just animatronic mannequins or aliens pretending to say things they think human kids would say; so that was also a nice touch.

There's big production muscle and the Sherman brothers in a state of grace. It's a wonder they didn't invest a little more interest in the story.

About 45 minutes goes by after the car is introduced in the opening credits before it appears again, though the intervening part isn't bad. The solo song Truly Scrumptious sings about needing a man could definitely be cut (and is even more odd in the context of being in a made up story being told to her). Also the song and other plot elements about the king wanting to get rid of his wife? The name of the female lead and other odd Bond-like elements are entertaining to discover.

A few great Sherman Brothers musical numbers and sumptuous locations can't save this from being an overly long mess of a film.

A classic children's film- Colourful, quirky and great fun, but the narrative does go off all over the place and leaves you waiting for the memorable bits. The child napper and the songs.

Probably something that if you watched it as a kid you'll still enjoy it as an adult. I never bothered with it as a kid so now I don't get the appeal

Lavish _Mary Poppins_ wannabe is often more fun but suffers from overlength and a slow first half. Cheesy special FX but some of the songs (like "Me Ol' Bamboo" and "Doll on a Music Box") are good. Frobe and Jeffries are funny (while Hill doesn't get to leer at even one bikini girl), and this was a bigger hit than other megaflop musicals of the time like _Doctor Dolittle_.

This is the first movie I ever saw. We got a tv sometime after I turned 5 and I remember sitting on a stool in the kitchen eating mac & cheese and watching this on an Apple monitor hooked to a VCR. I will always love it, if for no other reason. The child catcher did seriously scare me when I was little.

One of only a handful of films ever shot in 70mm, it looks beautiful, although it could stand to lose an hour off it's running time.

Most memorable due to that child-snatcher being one freaky bugger. Brainless nostalgic fun, but quite long-winded at times.
