Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering

When you're invested in horror, the awful truth is that you enter films with a lowered sense of expectation. It's a hard truth, but you've probably sat through some fairly awful stuff. So when a film does something right, or rather, anything right it creates a higher degree of respect than maybe it warrants. Case in point: CotC IV. There is a single image from this film that still haunts me and in comparison to countless hours of films that didn't get any rise whatsoever, it becomes worthwhile.

Urban Harvest ate and went too big. The Gathering is all lowkey and kinda atmospheric for this series (atrocious) with some great gore and kills. they're children, one punch can implode their entire face regardless of whoever is walking behind the rows.

Everything here has dramatically improved from the last film. And along w/ the first it's the most consistently competent & well made of the franchise so far. Story-wise, everything (mostly) makes sense - origins, motivations & there's even a twist. As the film slowly reveals what's behind the mystery of the sick children, the director wrings some level of suspense from the kind of effective atmospheric imagery you don't expect from this franchise. The acting is also the best it's ever been.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the 2nd or 3rd one but would still say its superior to the first one. I guess maybe its a sign of terrible brain damage or impending stroke, but I kind of like these sequels.

I went into this thinking it would be complete shit based on most people reviews but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. The story is generic but not terrible, the kills were gory and mostly well done, the acting was not too bad. It basically plays out like a supernatural prequel to the first film.

so dull and boring omg ugh, but at least naomi watts is in it, which is pretty crazy tbh.

Naomi Watts was in this? And Karen Black? What the fuck?

Hardly worthwhile unless you're a fan of the series, but I don't think there are people out there like that. Naomi Watts is hot so that's a plus, but the movie moves so slowly I can hardly see that anyone would enjoy this that much.
