I found it odd when Mel Gibson's character took an unwarranted shot at Silkies then referred to Julia Sawalha as "sugar wings."

On the surface, a hilarious adventure with plenty of eggs-cellent puns ("Ah, chute!"), clever action, and the perfect pairing of easy-to-hate villains and a charming flock of heroes (with a great no-chickenshit lead: "It's Ginger."). At its core though, it's a dramatic prison break film, capturing despair, suspense, and hope with surprising potency (see the early failed-attempt montage; the pre-climax one adeptly mixing inspiration, humour, and growing tension; the devastating poster reveal).

Very funny. It was just like the other movies Stalag 17 or The Great Escape, chickens in a sort of concentration camp. A chicken has also feelings in this movie.

A very good film, but just seems to have lost some of the personality seen in the W&G shorts somewhere along the line. Some great moments however and parodies The Great Escape excellently.

Few animated movies from the early 2000s could have matched the clever comedy and epic size of this film. Which is ironic considering its mainly about a group of chickens. Peter Lord and Nick Park created a real masterclass early on with amazing animation, flawless voice work and a final act so exciting you'll need to catch your breath by the time it comes to an end.

It plays out exactly as you know it will before you start watching, but that's not necessarily such a bad thing in a film like this. The animation is really good - how Nick Park manages to get so many emotions and human qualities into plasticine chickens, I do not know. Magic or something. The humour is good too, and works for both adults and kids. I had a fun time spotting the film references peppered throughout. It's a nice easy watch, but no more.

Chicken Run is a great comedy. It has enough to offer for all ages, despite its seemingly childish shell. Underneath that shell is a deep film, filled with rich characters and a large amount of humor. It's well-animated as well, and has something for everyone. Children will fall in love with the chickens, while adults will appreciate the art style and get some of the humor that younger audience members won't. The story is simple, but it is well told, allowing Chicken Run to be a memorable film.

Weird mixture of so tame at times, and then kinda really dark. Some parts were really predictable, clichés, even. But in the end, it has interesting characters an gizmos, and some heart. The bad guys can be terrifying at times, but in a pleasing way. The animation has its charm as well and seems ageless. Not all kids might like it, but those with sensibility and patience would

Though the cinematography is sometimes fun and the stop motion work is wildly impressive, the story is boring and slow. The aesthetic and look of the film is depressingly bleak the entire way through. Some of the bits are surprisingly dark for a "children's" film, which is fascinating. The voice acting is serviceable as well, but the film is mostly meh for me.

An escape movie involving chickens escaping from their chicken farm. Many of the parodies and allusions would be lost on younger generations like invoking the Great Escape and maybe even Star Trek to some. It has an entertaining enough story and some good humor thrown in throughout. It's not ground breaking, but the claymation is well done, it's funny, and will keep you entertained by the absurdity of it all.

Fun but slight. Interesting as far as watching an Aardman feature before the much superior Wallace & Gromit film, and some elements of it feel a little too American - I feel Nick Park's work in general relies on a hyper-British sense of humor and setting. This is alright though, if it does borrow a little heavily from The Great Escape and in general, doesn't tie up the plot and character arcs as well as it could have, focusing instead on good but needless action scenes.

A habitual film design from Peter Lord and Nick Park. Plot, characters and predictability comparable to something from a children's afternoon cartoon series, the only thing it lacks is someone at the end making a witty remark about how being nice and sharing will make you a better person. Instead that comment is replaced with a cheesy joke or three about the antagonists.

I love Wallace & Gromit’s adventures but had always found Chicken Run lacking, which a recent rewatch confirmed. The animation’s there, it’s light-hearted fun, there are gags, but the British humour seems to have been toned down for an international audience, as has the attention to detail. Could certainly have made more of the WWII/Great Escape parodies, and only contains a couple of memorable set pieces - with a feature-length effort like this you’d have expected more.

It would be nice -- it would be bliss -- if this, at eighty-odd minutes, were three times as good as any of the half-hour Wallace and Gromit shorts issued from the same British claymation studio, Aardman. Things don't work like that. An hour and a half is not a specification of internal necessity; it is a dictate of the market. And a muralist is not by nature an artist more serious and ambitious than a miniaturist.
