Beautiful film. Min-sik Choi is one of the finest actors I've seen. Wonderfully funny and some interesting thoughts on the role of the artist.

The famous korean painter was rude man and a really great artist. Min-sik Choi is performing very well and in this difficult role. Director is also giving really good view about living standards and politics at the end of 19 centuries Korea. For me this movie was a bit boring.

I was pleasantly surprised when my girlfriend took me watch this at a festival, none of us knowing anything about it beforehand. A bit long maybe, but very charming, humorous and beautiful. It has a certain, and very uncommon style, where the average scene is 30-40 seconds long. This works though - as we're told a life long story of a famous artist that came from nothing - as a great way to show glimpses of the character traits... Oh, and the images. Just amazing. Fuck, I wanna go to Korea now.

There's just something about Min-sik Choi and his mannerisms that works. Sadly, can't say the same about the film. Really hard to follow, didn't know if they were in China or Korea half the time, not knowing the history behind the film didn't help my understanding of it either.

I think it was great...it looked good. ...and there was a kind of sex scene I have never seen before...multiple bizzare sex scenes in fact.
