Haha, well, I think any piece-pusher who's ever come down with a bit of the "chess fever" can relate to this one. Seeing board patterns in the floor tiles, neglecting loved ones, dressing like a slob, and idolizing superstar players are all signs that you've got it, and bad! And of course, any movie with an appearance by "the chess machine" himself is bound to be awesome!

A take on the Harold Lloyd style of comedy, poking fun at Russia's national obsession with chess. Also featuring cute kittens and Capablanca putting in a bid as the unlikely king of Soviet cinema's latin lovers.

If you wonder about why Russians dominate the chess for decades and seeing Capablanca in a movie, you're in the right place.

A really funny and clever little short. It's about chess mania gripping the populace, focusing in particular on this Harold Lloyd-ish character and his bride-to-be. Lots of fun.

A very very well made movie for its time with slapstick comedy that works very well (especially the kittens in the wardrobe scene). And in the end she learns to both love her man and appreciate the game of kings. pshhhh

I find silent films difficult to engage with, and this is no exception. While it's a fairly amusing jaunt, it's ultimately fairly forgettable and will probably appeal only to the most hardened of chess nuts (for whom the sight of Capablanca is probably pornographic). Worth a watch if you've got 30 minutes to kill.

I enjoyed this more than I might have because I've been getting into chess lately, and this is an amusing look at how easy it is to get obsessed with the game.
