Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams

Chong is unencumbered by traditional concerns for narrative momentum. He is perfectly comfortable just letting the camera roll and relying on the improvisatory talent of his cast to create humour and interest in presumably semi-scripted scenes. This approach served him well in Next Movie, but in Nice Dreams diminishing returns had already begun to set in, and the lack of energy deflates its comic potential. C+C keep it watchable though and Keach is amusing, if underused, as a drug addled cop.

While it doesn't quite hold up to their masterpieces Next Movie and Things Are Tough All Over, make no mistake about it: Parts of this movie are absolutely brilliant, which more than makes up for other parts that sadly are plagued with the same lame humor that ruined the second half of Up in Smoke. Pretty funny stoner comedy from C&C. Not their best as they must have been really fucked up when they thought up this craziness. But hey it's what they do and they don't pretend to be anything other than what they are.

The stoner duo are back, and up to their usual mischief. New found millionaires from their success peddling dope, the duo continue to stumble themselves from scene to scene accidentally avoiding the bumbling police. Unfortunately the jokes throughout are fairly hit-and-miss with the film hitting occasional lulls, but the duo bring enough of their patented charm to keep the movie enjoyable for fans.
