slick and pro-war in isolation, too much sentiment contrasted with typecasted fools, all historical so not very interesting (actually, the history is more interesting). still don't hate seeing the whites get gunned down

Solid war film and the lighter tone is appreciated, but if you take away the nationalism and pro-Soviet commentary the film feels really empty.

An interesting Soviet film about Commander Chapaev. A little difficult to get the complete feeling for this one as it demands a lot of understanding about the political climate in Soviet/Russia at the time along with the myths about this man. But it's one that's certainly has it's intrigue, both from a historical point and for a real portrayal of a man of the people. This was a movie made with a positive heart for the main character.
