Would be unfair to evaluate this as you would any other film, as it's in a completely different world. The most beautifully photographed film I've ever seen. I feel like the majority of the reviewers online didn't give themselves a chance to enjoy it before dismissing it is as "dull" or "pretentious" and offering their definitive interpretation of the symbolism.

Accompanied by Chinese haikus, superimposed à la Paterson, this spellbinding, haunting, and mysterious film seeks to capture the essence of its land and history, diving into a luminous widescreen majesty unseen in today's cinema. And even if there is a (wobbly) narrative, the footing is in its poetic incantation, which culminates in a stirring image that brings together the Buddha and the woman, united in remembrance of life on the Yangtze.

Poetic, beautiful and slow. Also insanely boring.
