Chacun son cinéma ou Ce petit coup au coeur quand la lumière s'éteint et que le film commence

Up and down, as portmanteau films are destined to be. The Dardennes piece is sublime, while a number of others nicely build upon the concerns and ideas that filmmakers have developed in their features--I am esp. thinking of the entries by Tsai, Kiarostami, Kaurismaki, and Hou.

If you have an affection for cinema and women crying, then you're sure to love this (especially Kiarostami's short). Some are good, some not so good. My favourite was Yimou Zhang's, my least favourite was David Lynch's.

I for one enjoyed the hell outta this picture. Love movies. Love em.

Unsurprisingly, my favourite films were the ones by directors I already knew and loved, such as David Lynch, Aki Kaurismaki, Lars von Trier, Gus Van Sant, Roman Polanski and David Cronenberg. For some reason, the film by the Coen brothers wasn't included in the version I saw, but I checked it out online and it's also one of the best. The films are all quite varied - some are better than others, but I didn't see a film I disliked and I think all of them had something interesting to say.

Good in general. Bille August's was the best - he shows that cinema has the power to bring people together, no matter the religion or nationality. The funniest (and there were a lot of them) was Elia Suleiman's short :)

Some good ones, some bad ones, some repetitive ones. In the end it's just avarage

three of four of the shorts are cool...

Boring. But there's some interesting stuff, like Polanski's short.

Kitano's part was fun..
