Jeanne Crain is like some crazy bat out of hell in this middling family comedy. Relishing in post-WW2 patriotism and endlessly polite, the film trips over itself to deliver more happy endings and gee whiz-ness than one can almost stand. Features several very forgettable songs, and Premminger's direction doesn't alter this from most of the other 1800s-set musicals the studios were churning out at the time.

The characters and elegant production is what Otto Preminger's Centennial Summer (1946) lives on. The story and the musical element didn't work for me that well. Forgettable and didn't lead anywhere interesting, even if this movie got a couple of Oscar nominations because of the music.
