The lush environment of the far-north Queensland tropical forest is the only aspect of this turgid film that is new for the often hopeless Australian drama genre. It's crafted with technical care, but like the worst of opera, it's far more disconnected from human drama despite the amount of effort is tries to make otherwise. Lacking in warmth and a human hinge to identify with, it feels like an alien artefact in its natural environment (though it at least ends with a great unintentional laugh)
