Cats Don't Dance

Despite all its problems (not least of which are the boring lead characters), I have always really enjoyed this movie. Deep down, I enjoy that someone was weird enough to pitch "let's tell the story of black actors struggling to get jobs in the Hollywood Golden Age as an allegory with animals." I also legitimately enjoy Randy Newman, and he doesn't disappoint here. Cats Don't Dance is honestly so straightforwardly joyous that I can't help but really enjoy it. Also, Darla's a great villain.

A forgotten little gem that's worth checking out for its zesty animation, great villains, tons of Golden Age Hollywood references, and catchy soundtrack. Despite having themes of anti-racism, it doesn't say much, but hey, it's a fun time.

Much better than I expected it to be, but still kinda forgettable. I like the references to Golden Age Hollywood, and the allegorical references to how African-American actors were treated in the 30s and 40s. The music and characters are very meh though. (But I really, really don't like Randy Newman) The animation on Darla's expressions were the best part of the movie.

There's so much good about this movie! Other than the main character and his whole emotional arc! There's gorgeous animation and funny jokes and clever references, and our hero is an entitled white boy who the narrative thinks should get everything he wants and if he doesn't it's unfair! And there's also a really fun, superbly acted and animated villain, who's a child star who's blamed for the shittiness of Old Hollywood instead of being shown as another victim! This is a frustrating movie!!

rvw. i remembered parts of the ending roof scene from when i watched this like 15ish years ago and could never remember what movie it was until recently. it'll always be special for that reason even though it's okay lmao. wish i could remember/find the foghorn leghorn thing i think they played before it too

I can't remember anything about this movie other than the only human being the villain but I watched it like three times so I assume it's not bad.

An enjoyable movie.

Loved this as a kid. I'd watch it all the time. It's just a great children's film.

This film can just eff off.
