Birdy brings a modern sensibility to a medieval England coming-of-age story without falling into the pitfalls of preachiness or misandry. The film is almost constantly funny, but doesn't shy from darker moments. Strong performances from Ramsey, Kaye & Okonedo, and good support from Scott, Piper & in fact the entire cast. The admissions & resolutions in the 3rd act feel weak in execution, but the film runs with its feel-good vibe. Oddly fitting soundtrack. Best scene: pig roast with Shaggy Beard.

Really charming - Bella Ramsey and Andrew Scott are particularly delightful. Its ending may be a bit too generous, almost childlike in its happy indulgence, but hell - Birdy (the film, too, but especially the character) deserves it. A bright little picture, but one that doesn’t fail to include the shit in the corners, both the comedic and the horrible.

Enjoyable, coming of age tale set in Medieval times, updated for a modern audience. Excellent cast.

Lovely coming-of-age movie that presents a period plot with a modern sensibility in a way that I haven't seen often (if at all) before.

Couldn't even finish it. Not funny in the slightest.

Literate and lighthearted, the way more YA adaptations should be. Also does the "anachronistic music and humor in the middle ages" thing better than most films of its type. Lena Dunham never left, y'all.

Perfectly acceptable whimsical yet enjoyable tale about being a teenage girl.

Perhaps what's most impressive about “Catherine Called Birdy” is that it manages to bring to life a young teenager in the Middle Ages without feeling like it falls too far into the girl boss feminism approach that too many historical fiction works take. The film's mix of childlike fun and more sensitive topics makes Birdy one of the more relatable characters of the year and “Catherine Called Birdy” one of the year's strongest period films.

Bella Thee Ramsay!!!! Quick reminder the writer-director of this movie claimed she had insider evidence that proved a rape allegation against a writer on her show was fake and then admitted a year later she made the whole thing up

Quite hit or miss, especially in the first half, but the proceedings gain focus. It's charming and sly enough for a recommendation.
