An anthropomorphic cat takes acid and goes to a circus where a woman is carved to pieces and a flood happens so he gets on a boat and hallucinates some fish eating his shit. Then it gets weird.

Stream-of-consciousness surrealism in the vein of early Bunuel. Absurd, amusing and disturbing. The artwork (as in Mind Game) is so stunning, like illustrations from a beloved surrealist children's book.

Haha, this is insane. It's basically a showcase for bizarre, wonderful animation, loosely tied together with a plot about life and death and all of that good stuff. I feel no need to search for symbolism or metaphors, though I'm sure there's plenty; this stuff works best when you take it at face value and totally immerse yourself in the weirdness.

Bizarre and enjoyable. Animation provides a great medium for surrealism - literally anything is possible and this gives it a great edge over its real life counterparts. And hey, it's funny too.

Insane, but you cannot keep your eyes off it. You actually don't need drugs to get a "trip", just watch this ;)

I was continually intrigued by the sounds and visuals. I also kind of thought that I was following the story and symbolism (or at least some of it) but that really doesn't matter because this was as pretentious in terms of how 'intellectual and surrealist' it was as The Tree of Life. There was a good amount that was simply weird for the sake of being weird that ended up being boring because there was no real connection with anything real so the only thing it had going was bizarre visuals.

Stunning surreal dream with so much depth and emotion, that I could not look away for a moment. Great, disturbing, sad.

A really wonderful short cartoon. It's really bizarre but hypnotic. There's a lot of gore and freakishness involved so it's not for everyone. But all in all you would do yourself a huge disservice if you didn't watch it. I highly recommend it.

Trippy, as most of surrealism art. Most importantly, it doesn't feel empty.

It had some really inventive animation, which went from being really odd, to cute, to disturbing, to original. But it was also difficult to understand what was going on, since it's a surreal black comedy. It has really powerful music that fits the scenes really well.

Psycadelic and absurd, the story is yet simple enough in its symbolism to be enjoyed by most people. Cat soup is very striking visually in a mix of clean chibi animestile mixed with more realistic elements. There is no talking, just murmur and charecteristic backround music. Works fine indeed!

Crazy, completely unpredictable and horribly perverse at times. This would be recommended to drug users if it weren't for the truly disturbing and heinous shit that it throws at you.

Confirmed by the fact that the creator killed himself, I think the creator was either depressed while making is this or trying to reflect it in his characters. There's some symbolism I don't yet know the meaning of and of which I doubt there is any, but I will give it a pass on the basis of what he achieved as a whole.

Kooky and spooky. Seems very Japanese in a way that is hard to explain or understand. Released three years after the suicide by hanging of the author of the comic book on which it is based.

an endlessly surreal animation about all those existential things: life, death, temporality, morality. essentially all the accidental machinations of existence. and it's fucking madness.

Well... First of all, this animation can be understood in many different ways, so it's hard to summarise. Most of the movie looks like someone's dream - it's very cool, but doesn't make any sense at the first glimpse. I'm not much a cat lover but I guess heroes can be considered cute by some people. I especially liked gore scenes because they were untypical. Also, frozen time landscapes were cool. It's worth watching, but definitely not something for kids. It's a pity the author commited suicide.

Definitely one of the most mind-fucking things I've ever watched. First mind-fucking movie prize goes to David Lynch, second goes to "Cat Soup". Felt shocked, relieved and sad at the same time.
