A Southern themed precoder that's both sweet and outrageous tragedy. While heavily rooted in that old Southern romanticism, it takes place right after the Civil War and there is a shift in tone. And I guess Carolina (1934) tried to capture something authentic just before the Hays Code started telling studios 'none of that realism'. The overall message is stop 'living in the past', displaying some of the old bad habits while realizing it's time for a fresh start with hopes of a warmer society.
