In an undefined future, the Earth is no longer habitable: people live on overcrowded space stations and dream of a paradise located on a planet called Rhea. Hoping to earn enough money to buy her place on Rhea, a young doctor gets a job on a long-range space freighter and takes over the watch for months while the rest of the crew is in stasis. But she soon realizes they are not alone on board the spacecraft.

I thought this was a pretty damn neat movie that I accidentally found thanks to the hilariously moronic review of this 'areels' person. It's a tight sci-fi thriller that has tons of atmosphere, good visuals, and kept me guessing as to how it would play out. Starts like just another Alien-type flick, but then heads in a less bloody but more cerebral direction. The emotional impact wasn't as powerful as I'd hoped, but it is definitely worth a look for sci-fi fans.

Is it just me, or did a few things (perhaps entirely coincidentally, perhaps not) get, uhm, lifted for 'Gravity'? 'Cargo' is, itself, a rather familiar mish-mash of ideas, and I saw the end coming from the very beginning, but I can't get enough of this type of sci-fi, and taking the budget into consideration, it's highly impressive stuff. The cinematography is better than the often incredibly dodgy cgi, however.

One thing the film certainly has is atmosphere - one that I wouldn't say I was necessary immersed in, but definitely an atmosphere I was not familiar with. Probably linked to my biggest criticism of the film - inconsistency, i.e. the atmosphere had the Alien-esqueness of the beginning, the cosmic politics of terror, the two separate distinctly different 'humane' stories, etc. The same goes for the special effects - great and terrible - the acting - great and terrible: a mediocre result.

It is the future. The Earth is a (seemingly) polluted wasteland, the TSA is still the most evil presence in the universe, and written text has devolved into a random hodgepodge of misused Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, despite the fact that everyone speaks German. Oh, and Swiss CGI still hasn't caught up to PlayStation2-standards. On the other hand, it's good to know that people are just as bat-shit crazy as ever.

It's certainly not awful, but sometimes the acting is SO bad. That kinda ruined things for me. The story is pretty decent, but quite forgettable

Cargo could have easily been one of the best sci-fi films to come out in the past decade and honestly it was, up until the completely out of place and nonsensical love scene and follow-up romance. At that point the general plot remains interesting but is constantly ruined whenever the horrible romance subplot rears it's ugly head. With that said Cargo looks absolutely incredible and boasts incredible shots and is well worth a watch for a sci-fi fan.

Certainly not horrible. Combines a lot of movie ideas fairly well without doing anything crazy. Can't help but feel fairly indifferent about the whole experience at the end. Also if a movie is going to have a huge metallic door central to many scenes then at least use it to crush somebody.

Of course i did not watch the movie but trailer and story is enough to imagine how awfull and poor this movie going to be. according to director and country it can't have any good production quailty either. so i've rated 50 and not going to watch.

Overly derivative of ALIEN at times, but a fun and entertaining little B-pic with impressive sets and design managing to obscure its modest budget. Typical of the lesser entries of this genre, it's unfortunate that once the threat comes into focus, most of the suspense and tension evaporates, leading to a second half that seems to have trouble deciding if it wants to go smash-and-grab horror, or become a more thoughtful, pensive experience, leading to a fairly limp, fizz-out of a conclusion.

Unending rehash of space tropes: - human drones as surprise cargo - unmotivated space cabin love scene - generic crew whodunnit with obvious outs - finding what is the "true mission" - racing against the timed departure of the ship - climatic scene: antagonist blown from airlock. They just needed a face hugger. Other than that, it's all here. Disappointing.

Call me old-fashioned but I think movies should be about something, and they should have characters with personalities. This isn't even interesting to look at, or listen to, and certainly there's barely anything here to think about. There's nothing good here. Bonus points for grabbing the nearest Asian person (of Tibetan and Swiss heritage) to play a Japanese person, which by Swiss standards counts as close enough I guess.

I still can't believe this - such perfect sci-fi atmosphere movie, perfect regarding how it was created but what about the rest? I like the main actress but not the plot at all - this was about nothing :(

Decent attempt at sci-fi, the cg is great (for the budged at least). Forced romance subplot really puts a damper on the otherwise passable plot. Also what happened to the engineers at the end?

It had furniture, it had dialogues. Nice ambiance, superficial script, superficial emotions. Just like the last message from Rhea: No-one will have contact with Rhea again, we are blasting the antennas... So what?

Don't watch if you have epilepsy! Lots of flashing scenes. Actually, if you're claustrophobic it's probably not a good one to watch either. It's a really good & suspenseful story except for a few strange plot elements (mainly, the main character's romantic interest that comes from nowhere; but being in isolation for a long time might do that to you). Really makes you think about what-if's of the future.

Sci Fi movies sometimes like to go full ridiculous. But it had a lot of unnecessary moments thrown in it as well, I feel.

If you focus on its positives, Cargo is an atmospheric, good looking, all-round solid sci-fi.

Heavy influences from "Alien" (without the alien), "Sunshine" (without the sun), "Event Horizon" (even more boring). Awful script and acting. Kinda ok for a first swiss try in the genre.

Everything after the forced romantic angle (with an actor and actress who have as much sexual chemistry as a pediatric cancer ward) took away from a pretty decent first third or so of the movie. The Curly & Moe characters could have been dropped from the movie as well, or at least edited enough so that I wouldn't have to refer to them as Curly & Moe. Definitely a sci-fi flick that could be far better if re-made by the right people

This was a bit difficult to rate since the hardcore scifi effects and the world (and directing and cinematography) were stunning. It just blowed my mind. But the acting did not. And the story was kind of bunt. After first half there was nothing much to add to the story.

Feels like a mish-mash of popular sci-fi movies with little, if anything, new to offer. If you're low-budget though, you shouldn't rely on great big special effects set pieces.

Special effects and set design get an A+. Concept gets a B+, mostly for being fairly original, but execution unfortunately gets a C-. I'll remember that visually, it was a good-looking film, but a year after seeing it, I've forgotten all charactors and most of the storyline.

German sci-fi that places itself somewhere between Serenity, Solyaris and 2001. Some really interesting ideas, but relies a little too much on unconvincing CGI to set the scenes and stupid secondary characters to provide plot twists. Excellent performance by the lead character, though.
