I'll take any film that doesn't show Lebanon as some sort of archaic warzone (to say, likely any film about the country not made in America), but all of the risks it takes are superficial and by the end every character has taken a conservative approach to their individual situations. Left me cold and depressed, which it wasn't supposed to.

While vivid and colorful in its depiction of hidden and delayed desires of these stunning Lebanese women, Caramel doesn't quite sustain its naive and urgent feelings for much time. There is plenty of life here, but Labaki just couldn't find a decent way to properly shoot it.

I always thought this movie had a deeper intention about understanding Lebanon and the consequences of the conflict, I mean, that's what I heard, but that doesn't make it worse, I just want to make it clear if you heard the same. It's still an enjoyable, quite light, look to the country, and a nice mosaic of women in that particular scenario.

Fun and sweet but just a little too much focus on the wider cast leads to some of the stronger plot lines feeling more muddled than they really should.

A gentle story, nice to look at but it all felt a bit superficial. The ending was too 'down' for the feel created by the rest of the film.

It's fairly charming, watchable stuff though far from desperately funny, insightful, moving (with a couple minor exceptions) or gripping. Rima's and Labaki's stories are the only ones that actually interested me which is obviously a major problem and the film is dragged down yet further by both its music, which wasn't very good, and accompanying montages, as well as its ending which was depressing quite opposite to the film's intent.

Well done Lebanese story about difficulties to find love for lonely women. Actually the place was not necessary for the universal story. The flick was in nice harmony.

"Caramel" finds the perfect balance between sweet, optimistic romantic comedy and depressing drama. It is well-shot, has a notable score and its cast is simply divine. It is moving, funny, interesting, exciting, fresh, realistic, clever and - unlike modern rom-coms - above all human.

In its own understated and often poignant way, the film succeeds where so many other entries in the 'Romantic Comedy' genre fall flat. Nicely shot and scored, and highly enjoyable.
