Nothing outstanding to report here, and I don't like Errol Flynn very much. Still, it was consistently entertaining for 2 hours, which is more than you can say about a lot of movies.

A fun adventure story with a truly epic battle sequence at the climax.

An adventure classic for good reason. It's a great story that never drags, and Blood has an idealistic center the likes of which Hollywood hasn't shown for decades. The acting is excellent all around too. The pirate code that Blood writes, and Ms. Bishop's expectations of him as a person make for some thought-provoking material. Overall, it's a fun and well-paced movie.

Insanely entertaining. The special effects look incredibly fresh for a movie as old as this one. Don't think I'll ever see a better pirate movie after this one.

Errol Flynn doing his swashbuckling thing; it's utterly lighthearted and amusing, a must for pirate fans who want to see the genre in its childhood. Of course Errol Flynn in a ninja film would have been far superior.

Well, fair to see why Flynn appeared as a star out of nowhere with this (even if the customary mustache took a bit to follow). And maybe the talkie days were due a big picture in this vein, as it had been a fair decade since the big splash of The Sea Hawk and The Black Pirate. It is rather long though.

Flynn carries the movie with his vigorous, incisive and cheerful banter. He was really quite electric. If you were looking for a proper old pirate movie (which I was) this should service in spades. Fun.

Some pretty insane action for a movie made in the 30's, even if some of the footage was borrowed from another movie. It's a great swashbuckling movie and getting into it, you pretty much know what you're going to receive. Surprisingly sidelined romance with focus on naval battles and some sword fights. A little bit too much dialogue at some points, but as an adventure romp it's certainly got its own kind of oldies charm.

Very possibly the greatest pirate movie ever made, absolutely propelled by Flynn, de Havilland, and the GOAT, Korngold. Gives so many cues to Curse of the Black Pearl, which in case you'd forgotten, is also one of the all time great adventure movies, despite what the Pirates franchise might have become.

There are aspects of Captain Blood that play out as lighthearted; at times it feels like the film is making light of slavery and autocracy.

Olivia de Havilland is rather adorable, but Flynn can go take a hike for all I care, and this is simply not my genre.

Production and direction of this romantic swashbuckler is very careful, and this is a very good example of its kind. Flynn is a piece of wood but has a charm for this kind of hero role, the action is exciting and fun, and composer Korngold hit the nail on the head.

Enter Errol Flynn & Olivia de Havilland! A gamble on a big budget production which payed off, instantly making stars of them both. And what a grand adventure film! Full of fun and brutality! For a 2 hours action adventure it sure fills it's time well. Never a dull moment with Flynn being the ace and de Havilland is the stunning beauty queen. Lionel Atwill is the perfect villain being a ruthless slave owner. A pure evil dude! This one was a pure joy!

Well, that one swashed many a buckle! Olivia was cute as heck too, as well as being pretty scary when she turned cold (you could kinda see what Joan must've gone through).

This was a fun film hampered a little by a long set up and not enough action for my taste. The final battle sequence holds up pretty well for a film this old.

The story never stops moving forward and with Flynn leading the adventure the time flies by. Some great set pieces, appearances by the lovely Olivia de Havilland, what more could one ask for.

This is starting to show its age, but it is still pretty entertaining. The sea fights are good, Flynn and De Havilland are both young and beautiful, nd Rathbone is excellent as the vulgar pirate with pretentions to gentility. All in all, not a bad way to pass the time.

A trifling entertainment, to be sure, but a great one at that. The film really picks up steam in its second half as former doctor Blood seemingly casts off all principles and becomes a pirate. Flynn is dashing in the lead role, de Haviland never looked more beautiful, and Rathbone is wonderfully villainous in his small but significant role. Curtiz frames the action well, while the rousing sword fights and raging sea battles gain momentum throughout the film.

Wanted to love it, but didn't. I found it difficult to reconcile the rollicking fun which the cast seemed to be having with the consistently dark themes of slavery, revenge, betrayal, etc. Robin Hood - or even The Crimson Pirate - it ain't.
