Captain America

The only thing that this Captain America has with any version you've ever read or seen is the costume. But I suppose changes were made to make it more palatable to a 1944 audience. And for what this is, it's fine. The cliffhangers are actually decent, the fighting is often creative, and there are a handful of impressive explosions. That's about it, but what do you expect for something that was 15 minutes released every week?

Never considered Dick Purcell as a action hero?! He's a good second-fiddle in B-crime busters, but as Captain America (1944).... I guess it grew on me a little bit, for I did enjoy this 15-episode serial. Did help that they had Lionel Atwill as the sleazy bad guy. The action was quite good too. This is not like superhero movies of now which tries to be Shakespeare, but for that period when superheros where for kids, this must have entertained a lot.

Republic Pictures's 15-chapter serial with Purcell as the titular captain (in a less than effective costume). Not bad, especially when the neon-eyed Lionel Atwill takes center stage.
