It sags in the middle, but the early chapters are arresting, and once he loses its leg it gets damn interesting. The brief section on the Pequod makes me yearn for a more traditional adaptation from Ramos - it's the most engaging version of spanish gold chapter I've ever seen. I also got a kick out of seeing Ishmael standing wordlessly in the periphery of scenes.
