Cannonball!

It’s weird, there was obviously a decent budget to pay for all the stunts and on-location scenes, but the film still feels so cheap (and so ‘70s). I dunno if it’s the quick editing or the shaky-cam or what but it felt like I was getting a migraine throughout. Apparently there are better cross-country racing efforts of the era – I might try one.

This movie starts off well but it fades in the third act. By the end of the film there has been to many explosions. There are some entertaining scenes and moments. Overall this film is disappointing.

I wasn't totally sold on Death Race, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised this didn't win me over. It's fine. It's Corman. It's very 70s. Very dated. Keep an eye out for young Scorsese.

This was less Cannonball Run and more Gone in Sixty Seconds and I for one was here for it.

Dumb and fun.

Much as Corman took Charles Griffith's script for BUCKET OF BLOOD, as proto-Paul Bartel a film as was ever made, and had Griffith hastily rework it over a weekend for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, here he persuaded a reluctant Bartel to re-do DEATH RACE 2000, cheaper and de-camped, the result a mostly po-faced racing picture obviously directed by a man with no interest in directing it. All those other movies rule; this one sucks save the fun bits with Bartel and Dick Miller.

Not so cool as Death Race 2000, but a very nice flick anyway.

Had this film had the budget and talent of Cannonball Run, it would have been better than either one. Death Race 2000 from the previous year was FAR superior.
