This story is a narration from an Australian man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. The narrator changes from a smart-aleck to someone trying to find a vein to inject, while Candy changes from an actress, call girl, streetwalker, and then a madwoman. Starting in Sydney, the two eventually end up in Melbourne to go clean, but they fail... (imdb)

Abbie Cornish gives an awesome performance and Heath is really good too. This movie is hard to watch at times - that miscarriage thing was so disgusting. Overall, pretty good but their are better drug addiction movies.

Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish have such good chemistry this film becomes more then a film, it becomes artwork. Ledger and Cornish are able to paint the audience a sad picture, that resonates with them long after the final credits are rolling. This is the greatest film I have ever seen, Ledger was a master of his craft at such a young age, and this was a testament of his talent. This film was painfully real. It was so real I dont know if I could even watch it a second time.

Far from an amazing movie, but far from horrible, Candy is a bit of a slow, middling tale, but very well acted and gives a bit of a glimpse into the true life of an addict.

Top badass moment? The guy giving the free milk out. Not that I approve of milk, but I certainly respect the motive. So two intelligent but overpampered 20 somethings start taking heroin and it ultimately doesn’t do them any good. The end. I certainly felt smug and superior after watching this film, although if I’m honest I’d love to be addicted to drugs, but I’m just too busy at the moment, dealing with, you know, 'life shit' and a “cost of living crisis”. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Though tough to watch at times, well acted and authentic look at drug addiction, in the midst of a romance.

This plot has been done to death. That's generally not a problem provided the film has something new and captivating to offer. However, I saw the same old tropes with very little creativity. Aside from Ledger's performance, everything about the film is too amateurish. The direction is particularly boring.

I've had no exposure to the drugs milieu except a few films I've seen, and there wasn't anything in here I wouldn't have been able to write. The imagery also was trite and uninventive. Not bad, but entirely unremarkable.

Not as haunting and disturbing as 'Requiem for a Dream' but the brilliant chemistry between Cornish and Ledger and that heartbreaking final scene make for a memorable experience.

Abbie Cornish is incredibly beautiful in this tragic story of obsession with love and drugs. Heroine abuse causes their inevitable downfall from a carefree happy couple to a pair of junkies doing just about anything for another fix. It is heartbreaking and terrible, but still it manages to sugar coat and romanticize their misadventures. It is a steady spiral into poverty, degradation, desperation and becoming deranged, but the ending and their recovery, did not seem real and credible.

Not a story that makes you feel well, but it's a well told story, and there are some ray of lights in-between its misery. The lead-duo are very convincingly delivering their brain-candy, especially Abbie.C - and even here she also has her usual eye-thinghy going for her. *Preview*: #13#, exp-3*, story, reviews, Abbie.C/9-5, (actors), R4.

Geoffrey Rush is fine as a gay drug dealer who serves as an enabling Santa Claus to the doomed couple. But in the end, Candy is a little too sweet and not quite harmful enough to the audience's health.

Candy is a good film that is severely lacking in originality. Even so, if you haven't already exhausted your quota of anti-drug films, or if you're a fan of either Heath Ledger or Abbie Cornish, I think it's worth a watch. It's not a fun time, though, so if you're looking for a film to cheer you up after a tough day, you'll definitely want to pick something else.

A very good film founded on two stellar performances. Like in most drug-centred films, I found the comedown a bit depressing and drawn out, however the "heaven" and "earth" sections were mesmerising and delightful. Great cinematography and judicious use of music. Abbie Cornish's beauty goes a long way towards making every frame breathtaking. I think this film has a lot in common with "Blue Valentine". More than just another junkie portrait.

Really sold the film thanks to the great chemistry between Ledger and Cornish. And it's here that I also have to digress a little to point out to all the scathing reviews of "unoriginal" "poor mans Requiem for a Dream" etc. that this is a film based on a quite excellent novel - which I'd recommend reading - and I thought they adapted it very competently. I found both Candy/Requiem novels quite different, as I did with the films. But, yes, they're both drug-themed. Well done for noticing.

This feels like a very pale Requiem for a Dream wannabe - it's even divided to parts in a similar way (earth, hell... instead of spring, summer... - very original!).

While a good movie that had some very good acting, I couldn't really say that I enjoyed it very much. I appreciate it and respect it but I was kind of bored and annoyed throughout. It's a well shot and well acted but ultimately cliche drug addict movie. Personally, I much prefer Requiem to Candy. Both are depressing drug movies with great acting and somewhat cliched stories but Requiem grabbed my attention and wouldn't let me look away or breath. Candy bored me for most of it's running time.
