A mediocre musical three-way romance (I expected ol' Maurice to get in there too, but he abstained). The dance sequences are interesting: one involves violence against a woman, and another is a quite beautiful Adam & Eve interpretation that feels completely out of place (both thematically and structurally -- when did they build that additional stage in the cafe?). The costumes did deserve their Oscar, while the rest of the film is mostly forgettable.

Flimsy story centering on a nightclub and the forbidden dance of the "can-can" is really an excuse for some exquisite Cole Porter musical numbers. Highlights include Sinatra's "It's Alright with Me" and Chevalier's "Just One of Those Things." Academy Award nominated for its Costumes (Irene Sharaff) and Scoring of a Musical Picture (Nelson Riddle). Cole Porter himself won a Grammy for the soundtrack.
