Two smart marketing people resurrect some old films starring cowboy Smoky Callaway and put them on television. The films are a big hit and the star is in demand. Unfortunately no one can find him. MGM has always looked down on the Western. Here when spoofing the B-/TV-westerns, they high brow them even more. Didn't help that there wasn't really many laughs. Fred MacMurray act alone couldn't carry it. The cowboy(s) was a little too stiff (deliberate?), and Dorothy McGuire as the romance lead was sweet, but didn't add anything. So while some action involved, it was yet another miss from MGM who was way off their game with their regular pictures at this point.
