The second remake of a Reginald Denny silent film John Wayne did during his 6-picture deal with Universal Pictures in 1936-37. California Straight Ahead! (1937) a talkie version of Denny's 1925 film of the same name. I liked the silent film alright, but Wayne's script felt well under-developed to take advantage of the vibrant plot. Does have it's moments, though. Now all I'm missing from John Wayne's Universal period is Adventure's End (1937). Hopefully it'll turn up soon too.
