A group of veterans recount a horrifying experience when trapped in a minefield, resulting in each losing their sight. This is an incredibly powerful anti-war film, showing the horrors of war first hand, in stark close-ups without gratuitous gore. The physical injuries are not quite so emphasized as much as the emotional scaring, with the soldiers expressing their deep regret and longing for a better quality of life.

Powerful documentary that cuts together accounts of war from several now-blinded soldiers. The camera remains quite close to the (appropriately partially obscured) faces of these soldiers. The harpsichord during the section breaks formally underlines the variety of voices in the film. And while the soldiers do not express identical reactions to their common disability, an underlying sense of unity in their experience arises through Kieslowski's skillful editing.
