I enjoyed this a great deal, esp. the final scene which played out in a beautiful visual display of brokenness and new life. The underlying drama is triggered by an unusually extreme act of violence, but otherwise, I appreciated the understated narrative development and performances. Bier's use of montage is especially good, bringing an emotional immediacy to the drama.

Movie with a known story (war and it's effects on people), just say Danish style. Cast is very good, and Connie Nielsen is more than good.

I wanted to rate this lower because of how dogshit ugly it is to look at, but the subtle, complex script and fine acting won me over in the end. It really is offensive to the eye though. It looks like a TV show. The scenes in Afghanistan are particularly unconvincing.

"Every plot point follows a soapy and well-worn path, but the characters speak to each other as if they've known each other their entire lives." - Ed Gonzalez

If you can overlook the fact that the story is the movie Pearl Harbor set in Denmark and Afghanistan and focus on the acting then this movie is world class. Thomsen and Lie Kaas are exceptionel actors and here they get to strut their stuff. The love between the two brothers and their seperate relationships to Nielsen is something you could teach acting classes after. Smiles, winks and stolen glances. Had this movie been submitted to the Oscars I predict it would have won. Watch it and agree!

The movie shifts back and forth from very good to great, yet the performances were splendid and solid throughout. I loved the interaction between the characters and how they overcame their current predicaments. I'm a big fan of Sheridan's work, so I can't wait to see his version.

Finely acted, sure. But once again, the story here is something that hasn't been updated much from when we saw it before when Coming Home and The Deer Hunter was released, except this time it's more forced and happens in Iraq. Didn't feel as true now since it seems ripped more from past movies than it does the headlines.
