This movie came out when I was in high school, and I loved it so much I wrote a substantial research paper on the "Beast of Gevaudan" for an english class. As far as action movies go, this one has to be my favorite.

Nothing short of everything you could possibly want out of an action film. The action is absolutely awesome. It's brutal, fast paced and wonderfully shot and edited. The cinematography is excellent and the plot isn't insulting at all. In fact, I can honestly say I consider it quite good!

A French-language Lone Ranger true-story historical fiction costume drama detective western about a mystic-occult conspiracy theory and Papal double-agents with horror overtones including an incest subplot and martial arts fight sequences bookended by a war and a moral about the French Revolution that all shockingly kinda works.

This is another highly dumb movie that I love because it has so many things I'm contractually obligated to love! Historical costumes, martial arts moves in flowing trenchcoats, sassy noblewomen, a gorgeous soundtrack, moody horror, the French Revolution? Sign me up please.

This one caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting much but came away entertained and satisfied. It felt like a blend of Last of the Mohicans and The Road Warrior in a 17th century French costume drama where everybody is kung-fu fighting! Great atmosphere, interesting characters, and entertaining action sequences. Points for pushing the boundaries and daring to be different.

Mistake - When the members of the brotherhood beat up Mani until he is dead, they pick him up above their heads. The tattoo on his torso appears to be on his right side, whereas in previous and following scenes the tattoo is on his left side. That shot is flipped.

Has a lot of potential, but really fucks up the execution. The pacing was really off, and it got a bit too hokey for me as the story progressed, culminating in the revelation of the bone chain sword thing. Of interest.

That's a weird one. I was expecting some mystery period piece with maybe a tiny bit of supernatural. Not martial art fights, sexual intrigues, the bandits from Skyrim, and videogame weapons and traps. I can't say that I hated it, and there was way too much care put into this to be considered a silly B movie. It however felt longer than the runtime it has due to all the twists. The portrayal of the native character felt a bit yikes on many occasions

Brotherhood of the Wolf is that starts of as period drama with a mystery before edging off the cliff of campiness. The acting, costuming, dialogue and action vary between decent and good; unfortunately the pacing of 150 minute film let it down, often dragging through supernatural double bluffs. A little reminiscent of The 13th Warrior (1999) but developed with an inferior vibe. Ultimately this comes down to the film having "cool" but weakly developed characters.

Distinctive and memorable blend of pretty much every genre you can think of – best appreciated in the rear view mirror, as remembering the highlights is more fun than slogging through the 2½ hours, where the lack of discipline and focus becomes wearying. The final hour when Le Bihan goes in to action-man ass kicking mode is as viscerally satisfying as any U.S. equivalent, and if you want a shady character, you can’t go wrong casting Cassel who is brilliant as always. A mixed bag, but worthwhile.

Well made movie by a director with loads of talent that I wish would be a little busier than one movie every five/six years. Very stylistic in it's timeline and intriguing characters and locations. Well done on the acting front, probably the best the quite active Dacascos has ever done.

Very silly film that overstays its welcome by a fair margin - and yet, thanks to a mish-mash of at least half a dozen genres, solid production/photography, and decent/bizarre acting turns, remains amusing, unpredictable fodder through to the finale.

Pretty decent period thriller with a damn good villain and great action scenes makes this film quite enjoyable. Considering this film was make in Quebec it shows that french/french-Canadian film makers can make decent action films even if they may not have the budget for it like their English counterparts. Worth checking out if your into action films, french/french Canadian films or the supernatural you may want to check this film out.

Except for subtitles since I don't speak french, I was impressed with the story. It was easy to dismiss the story as make believe but they do manage to anchor it to reality by the end. The story is interesting and engaging. Acting is decent, and it has a few very beautiful women. I quite enjoyed this movie and was pleasantly surprised by its twists and turns. This has a lot of period pomp, sword play, fighting, monsters, gore, romance and intrigue. Well worth watching.

Wildly ambitious. It doesn't always work, mind you, and it does feel like two movies that are at odds with each other - one a historical epic about an actual beast, the other a fairly insane supernatural thriller - but it is rewarding in its way.

Well, you kind of expect good performances from Bellucci, Cassel and Farcy, who incidentally were the only ones, whose performances I bought.
Monica Bellucci being the only thing remotely enjoyable about the movie (even if she couldn't act, it would've been :)), the movie otherwise sucked. Shallow, incoherent, dumb and the most uneffective use of slomotion I 've ever seen.

I have had this DVD in my collection for a long time. I do like a couple Vincent Cassel/Monica Bellucci collaboration. They've been in many interesting projects, like Irreversible and Sheitan. I love majority of this flick, there's a lot of potential. But they fuck up everything with pretty poor pacing. Some serious editing would not do any harm for it.
