The movie needed a little more time to develop some of its themes but it did a good job keeping interesting and getting both the serious aspects as well as the comedy. Solid and entertaining movie.

If every film was like this I would probably hate cinema, but in a world filled with nihilism this is a huge breathe of fresh air. A great love letter to not just cinema, but creating art in general. It's not as weird as Kyle Mooney and crew are capable of, but there is a weirdness that bleeds into the whole film.

Makes me want to go back and bingewatch all the old Brigsby episodes. I hate that so many people are jumping on the Brigsby bandwagon just now. I've been a fan since my parents introduced me to the show back when I was... hang on... MOM!??!

An unusual & highly original premise that could just be a sort of an odd dark comedy, but the execution wrings a great deal of melancholy from it. That feeling is reinforced by the excellently evocative score & directorial choices & by the end you have a genuinely sweet film about the joys that come from participating in a creative enterprise with others like filmmaking. The film only falters when it gets heavy handed with its metaphors about society trying to squash creativity.

a crazy unique concept where you either nail it, or botch it and make a bad movie, and this was the former for sure. although I was expecting more of a confrontation at the end.

This is an original film. The script is good and original. The cast does a good job in this movie as well. Overall I would recommend this film.

I wanted to like this more. I am a huge fan of Mooney's work on SNL, and this sounded like the perfect film for his brand of weirdness. There is a lot to like here -- it's a nice view of creativity and the power of cinema. But overall, it never seems to hit its mark.

More of light drama than the comedy you'd generally get when one of these sketch comedian types transitions to the big screen, but that doesn't end up being a bad thing at all - the film ends up being a worthwhile examination of creativity and the need to finish what you started. A bit awkward in spots (and really Kyle Mooney is about ten years too old to be playing this character), but I'm definitely up for anything else in the future from Kyle.

Brigsby Bear has an essence of 'Room' crossed with 'Be Kind Rewind', but its uncynical charm and unwavering optimism is a refreshing novelty that makes it both endearing and enjoyable. The entire cast is great and acts as a necessary balance to Mooney's (character's) weirdness. Thematically, the film is about acceptance more than obsession, and having no constant antagonist (save Danes' brief role) maintains a brisk pace.

I didn't really know anything besides plot description here going in and so I didn't know what to expect. Did not see the abduction angle coming, thought it was neat. What we saw of the episodes of BBA were really entertaining, but there was heart in every aspect of this film. I'm glad that they didn't shoehorn some unnecessary drama; some exists but it's natural and doesn't get in the way of the fact that this is basically a feel-good flick about making movies.

Hilarious, touching, original, thrilling. One of the most earnest films I've seen in some time.

Lumpy comedy can't quite decide where its focus should be - with an opening bringing to mind BAD BOY BUBBY (of all things), this doesn't really develop along those interesting lines, instead following Mooney and his creative ambitions, which makes the complex set-up a little redundant (and leaves Hamill and Adams with unsatisfying cameos). Still Mooney is a fun lead, and the cast in general seem to be having a good time - timeworn moral of "following your dreams" is still satisfying.

"Brigsby Bear" has a unique and unsettling mix of innocent preciousness and creepiness. It's a decent movie that's more captivating than entertaining.

It's a little played out and hip to say Mooney is the breakout star of this era of SNL but it's probably gonna end up being true

I love seeing anything this unique and fresh. And most films this fresh unfortunately feel like they bit off a little more than they can chew. Not this time. It is executed as well as it was conceived. I knew literally nothing about this going in, and I'm glad for it. And a really great examination of the drive to feed your creative impulses. "Thank you for what you're doing, that feels very nice!!"

Just a pure delight! The universe of Brigsby Bear featured some wonderful low budget world building. The faux dystopian world at the beginning being a prime example. Kyle Mooney embodied James perfectly with his naivety, positivity, and eager yet awkward sociability. Maybe his parents scenes/characters could have been fleshed out more, but the art direction and overall style really was good enough to carry the whole film. Lots of heart in this one and some surprising feelings of nostalgia.

If Napoleon Dynamite had a rougher childhood and then was forced to hangout with the Be Kind Rewind guys. Those familiar with Mooney's SNL work won't see much difference in this character, but he brings a bizarre nativity that is touching. Many of the comedy bits stick and the actual Brigsby Bear stuff is gold. Unfortunately, the third act is marred with many of the usual tropes that find their way into many independent comedy/dramas.

Whimsical approach aside, this is a film that truly seems like it's got a lot of love put into it. A heartfelt piece of work that i'm sure will get its second wind of praise in a few years.

Loved this, but I have my own issue with an obsession with an obscure thing [Fazuul]. Want to see at least a few Brigsby Bear episodes. Seriously thought they were training him to work for the FBI or something, turned out to be a pretty wholesome, though crazy, movie

Play is good, psychiatry is bad. Fair enough. Alternately, dubious allegorical indulgence of a generation arrested and imprisoned by televised fantasies, narcotically administered to mask the horrors of a world engineered by those selfsame fabulists.

Thoroughly enjoyable, except a bizarre sexual encounter and that it falls victim to the "writers don't know how to write a realistic, good therapist" problem. The story is great, though, a delightful mix of quirky and sentimental.

A surprising, well-made and charming film. While it does tick off every bullet point on the 'how to write a story' list of tropes, it still manages to be unique in other ways, which make the film feel refreshing. It's nostalgic in a pleasant way. The positivity and optimism are commendable, it really made me feel that film magic and love for film that caused me to register on this website. Recommended.

I loved this but I'm also a huge fan of Kyle Mooney and have been since his Good Neighbour days. At its core, it's a feel-good story about the healing power of movies. I know: been there, done that. However, it's so well-constructed and anchored by a genuinely great lead performance that I didn't care that I'd seen films like it before. Also, Mark Hamill is perfect in this.

BRIGSBY BEAR is an unfailingly sweet ode to the communal power of art, specifically the kind of pop culture that unites people across different levels of social understanding. Perhaps that's gilding the lily, as the film doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel or dig too deeply into its thematic depths. But that hardly matters when BRIGSBY has plenty of charm to spare in presenting its gently oddball sense of humor.

Never really sure what it wants to be. Needed more Brigsby Bear episodes. Needed less everyone else. Definitely saved by Andy Samberg's totally necessary inclusion into the film as an actor and character.
