Bridget is one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen ngl. Oh and Colin Firth really was kinda cute back then, wasn't he.

Firth's character could have used a bit more development and time to shine, as you don't necessarily find yourself rooting for him. Zellweger is really great here and she's the main reason this was such a hit.

A messy thirty-something's series of humiliations. It's funny, it's got a bit of an edge with some vulgarity sprinkled in. Solid rom-com. Skip the sequels.

An instruction guide for SWF losers adrift in the modern city, this bowdlerizes an old Jane Austen plot so that the insane people win and any pretense of sanity or goodness can be forgotten. If you imagine the rabble cheering for the guilltone making a movie, it would be this somewhat disgusting propaganda piece.

I couldn't fully buy into the love triangle of it all, since the one option is so clearly the villain, but Renee Zellweger is such a charming and funny lead that I enjoyed the overall film quite a bit.

In every life comes a time to turn a page. Why not turn a page of Bridget Jones's diary? Well, the first page was excellent. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth were superb and Bridgets friend added some tasty spices on that blue soup.

I felt like it was a reasonably entertaining film - there were a few scenes I really liked and thought were funny, if mostly just cringey (it hasn't aged well). But also it's basically just pride and prejudice so bleh...

Bridget Jones's Diary benefits greatly from the shockingly charming presence. The script is clever and has just enough style to appeal to film fans, but not too much to alienate casual viewers. The soundtrack is terrific and the romantic dialogue will not deter those who aren't the biggest fans of the RomCom genre.

Meh. As a single person, I can empathise with Bridget Jones. And as someone who enjoys comedies, there was a lot in this movie for me to like. Unfortunately, the comedic moments were too few and far between, and coupled with Zellweger's awful British accent, I couldn't in good faith say I liked this movie. I don't care how many "actual British people" said it was "bang on," to me it was just dreadful. Although, as many people have said on here, the Firth/Grant fight scene was lots of fun.

Bridget Jones's Diary is a classic British comedy about a young woman who is facing an existential crisis concerning her marriage prospects. She is 32-years-old and she isn't sure she is going to find Mr. Right so she starts writing a diary to keep her life in control. Renee Zellweger is wonderful in this movie. Hugh Grant plays a great smarmy boss character and Colin Firth is the guy who should be rooted for but plays a character who doesn't always make it easy.

Why does Bridget fall for Darcy? They barely even manage a full conversation throughout the entire film! He doesn't have anything in common with Bridget, nor does he reveal himself to have any interesting depth beyond that stiff/buttoned up/TERRIBLY PROPER first impression. I DON'T GET IT.

Bridget Jones 's Diary is definitely one of my favourite British comedies. Love them or hate them, there's no doubting that Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth & Hugh Grant are perfectly cast and brilliant together. Jim Broadbent is a worthy mention also. There are several undoubtedly silly moments, but the characters are likable, the humour still delivers and the soundtrack is great. And most importantly what I love most about Bridget Jones is the feel good vibe it leaves you with.

jones' silly antics would probably be more suitable for a sit com series, at least for those who are not familiar with the book. zellweger and grant aren't entirely bad but then again, the story is meh, and the pacing is a little bit off. still, it accomplishes its task by raising the expectations of thirty-something chubby women.
