The Brian Yuzna touch: "Okay I guess". This is one of the worst sequels but there's juuust enough little moments to make it worthwhile. A hot tip: skip the middle 50 minutes you miss nothing at all, the "Bride" shows up in the last 20 minutes when it should've been the start of the film and then the fallout from that and LET ME TELL YOU how I'd guide the Re-Animator saga:

I was set to give this about a 74 because Yuzna manages to deliver EVERYTHING fans of the original are seeking, except for the laughs (even though he's got exactly the right tone). There are ideas from the original Lovecraft stories; sexuality, outrageous concepts & a gonzo blend of horror & campy humor. But camp is tricky to pull off & the jokes rarely hit as well as they did in the first. But what a climax! It delivers all the horror & tragedy that Universal's Bride did in an even wilder way.

Yuzna is better when he's producing Stuart Gordon, but Bride of Re-Animator is still great if just a notch below the original. The climax is insane fun and well worth all of the build-up.

Picks up several months after the first film, and sees Herbert West attempting to continue his research into the animation of dead human tissue. His efforts to create life are hampered by a nosy cop investigating the original deaths, plus the return of the severed head of Dr. Hill, West's nemesis. Decent zombie comedy with a handful of laughs, but it never reaches the heights of farcical insanity of the original Re-Animator.

Ecchh. On the plus side, it stars Jeffrey Combs, who is always terrific. On the downside, it's directed by Brian Yuzna, who's done maybe two passable films his entire career. He always tries for the whole gross-out body horror thing, but he's no Cronenberg, & it usually turns out stupid, as here. Still, Jeffrey Combs.

Not as good as the original, but what sequel really is? Enjoyed the description of and scenes featuring the bride.

Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator's producer) and a different team of writers quite faithfully re-animate the spirit of the original Re-Animator. There is even some plot continuity from the first, to the extent that if you skipped the first you'll find this sequel confusing (more than it should be anyway). The writing is even sillier this time though, making suspension of disbelief virtually impossible, and resulting in a movie more ridiculous without being quite as crazy or as scary.

Better than I expected, really good if you like this sort of thing.

A logical sequel, as bizarre as that sounds. It's almost a parody of the first film. Some of the lines and their delivery are genuinely hilarious, my favourites both uttered by Jeffrey Combs: "He's a wife-beater, Dan! Use the gun!" and "I'm calling it."

I got exactly what I was looking for with this one: cheese and gore. Combs is just as ridiculous and wooden as ever, but that's actually his appeal as an actor, because it's certainly not his nebbish appearance.

Bride of the Re-animator takes the plot line of Frankenstein and adds a bunch of silliness and over the top practical effects that strikes the creates the secret sauce behind an enjoyable early 90's horror movie. For instance, when Lt. Leslie Chapham flashed his badge in his re-animated form I almost lost my mind. Sure, it could be polished in lots of ways, but overall it was amusing

A sequel that really has no reason to exist. There are no interesting conflicts, and Yuzna lacks Gordon's flair for controlled chaos. The overall tone is silly rather than absurd, and even when it attempts to be absurd, Yuzna really has no idea how to wring tension or humour out of these moments. Combs isn't as fun to watch because his personality isn't nearly as prickly, and there is no sense of danger to him. Crampton's absence is sorely felt and Gale's presence is merely fan service.

Doesn't compare to the original even if the FX are still great.

More comedy and less horror, but the classic's sequel is still a lot of fun. The moral compass of the characters is a bit tacked on with most of the emphasis on all the squishy visuals. I did miss Meg.

Not really worth giving the craziness of Re-Animator a life injection. It came back even more flawed.

Closely follows the blueprint of the original and as such is watchable enough for the most part, albeit falling short of the first in just about every area. The titular 'bride' doesn't appear til late on either, and is written into the story more as an afterthought. The final nail in the coffin of this sequel, however, is the incredibly disappointing climax, which never even begins to emulate the chaos and hilarity of its predecessor. Not worth your time then.
