The leads are perfectly cast, these are the two most interesting legends of tennis and yet the film manages to feel rather bland at times. Often opting for stylish filler to fill the emptiness of the script- it just felt like so much more could've been extracted here. I still found great interest getting to experience these moments on screen, and I'm glad this movie exists.

The film balances its mains masterfully, painting portraits of two empathetic and layered characters, but even in its climactic match the film fails to achieve any remarkable thrills, so it feels static. It's one-note, but at least the note is a good one.

Weak script with unconvincing representations of the protagonists and lacking insight with regard to the times or the events depicted. The presentation of the final is just awful, lacking the ability to show any actual points and compensating simply by having some commentator or other shout "he's back in it!" and the like. Really the worst way to explore this piece of sporting history.

Strong cinematography and central turns carry the slowly effective character set-ups (McEnroe was a bit neglected though) through the first two acts, with the surprising backstories (you'd think they would've been opposite) adding further intrigue and setting it up for a dramatic final act-but while the final match contained within was well-edited it did little to capitalize on or even recognize the character build-up before it, and the same goes for the brief epilogue and final title cards.

Maybe because I didn't know the result of the 1980 Wimbledon final, it made it that more exciting. Or maybe I just enjoyed the Scandinavian feel..? Buttom line is that I found it very *Good.

Although for no specific reason a bit heavier on Borg's side, this was a thrilling watch. First time ever I would have wished it were longer and had more character development for McEnroe which seems like an amazing character but he is pushed to the sideline for Borg. LaBeouf is really really good as usual, wish he shared the lead. The final game and actually the whole film was put together really well.

Borg/McEnroe is moderately entertaining but doesn't provide enough depth or information about its characters. Even if you're a fan of either person, it's hard to recommend.

Borg = Swede = douche bag. McEnroe = American = Awesome! Film = very mediocre and quite boring at times.

Just slightly better if not worse than the original match itself. Although about four hours it is very dynamic and full of twists and beautiful shots. That is the original match I mean.

I have come to realize that I am a sucker for movies about the pursuit to be the best. This movie contained well-executed glimpses into the self-imposed torture these two men endured, and the ending struck a chord. I'm not sure about the rewatchability factor here, but an excellent sports biopic nonetheless.

Thank goodness for the film’s ending, which heals some of my wounds. Where the tennis action fails, the closing scene succeeds, showing us the action and giving us a resolution the competition denies us. Very, very well done. As a film lover, I think it’s excellent. As a sports film lover, I think it’s pretty good. As a sports lover, I think it’s agonizing. For this, I have to penalize the film one point for unsportsmanlike behavior.

It had a few moments of greatness, but the overall approach is lopsided. One would almost think McEnroe has no inner life while Shia does his best to make him tick.

I found to be a relatively gripping watch towards the end, in terms of what happened at the main tennis match. Tennis isn't an especially exciting sport but I thought it was a decent drama. The acting isn't bad and I felt engrossed in the two mens feud - the anger/aggression seemed pretty believable. I'm not sure I can say I felt entirely sorry for them, although I certainly saw that pushy paprenting played a part. For a tennis film, this is surprisingly fast paced and even energetic at times.

I didn't know the result, so now I have a strange feeling. I mean, America usually wins the wars!

I was glued to the TV when this match was played live, so my opinion might be biases.

Hard to rate this film. However, if you don't know the results beforehand, it would make it more enjoyable. That's for sure. It is because after some point, the story does not improve itself and just stuck on the daily results of Wimbledon. As a tennis fan, I'm not completely against this but as a cinema fan I am.

While I didn't have the highest hopes for this i was still left disappointed. McEnroe was not featured as much as Borg and while they showed some childhood scenes and flashback it wasn't nearly enough. What really disappointed me the most was the fact they didn't have any tennis in the entire film. What little tennis you do get is in poorly done montages. Shia LaBeouf was pretty much wasted was McEnroe, which was a role he was born to play. Oh well at least the acting was solid.

The game itself is nicely shot, but it deserved better personality in the first half, focused on the athlete's backstory. It's amazing how the dude who interpreted Borg looks like Tom Hiddleston.

Great casting 4 both; best I've ever seen Shia LB. Needed more McEnroe scenes. For a NON fan of sports movie generally but a great tennis enthusiast it was interesting, well acted & pleasing but not close to a perfect movie or 1 to rewatch. Dragged in parts. Respectful & respectable dramtization of a great moment in tennis history more admirable than enchanting. Lesser than "Battle of The Sexes" but way superior to "Wimbledon" ;-)

We've seen it all before. And will again. And again. And again. There is only so much story that can be milked from a sports competition.

You'd think that with two completely opposite characters like this, you'd have an interesting dual character study to play up their contrasts and their attitudes towards their sports preparation and conduct -- but this bland film really subdues any entertaining characterisation, favouring instead the buildup to this tennis match that, aside from some great sound design, doesn't render tennis in a cinematic or dramatic enough manner.

What a performance from LaBeouf! No doubt the finest of his career and one of the best I've seen this year. The final match is awesome, but some of the scenes between Skarsgård and Gudnason are kind of dull.

Neither a successful drama or a successful sports movie. It's somewhere in between. Which is kind of dull.
