Borderlands

I saw this movie instead of sitting in rush hour and I'll be honest, I should have stuck with the traffic. Anyway, if you're on the younger side this movie is a decent representation of late 2000s "humor" (though crucially without the r-word and the f-slur). All the points I give to this movie I give to Kevin Hart not being the butt of every scene he's in.

Borderlands has many flaws well within its core of the source material. Its inconsistency amongst it hinders much of its cohesion. Amongst this, its screenplay is unfortunately pretty dull in it’s comedic aspects which feel watered down do to it’s PG-13 restrictions. However, it’s no worse than its other video game adaptations counterparts. Blanchett, Hart, and Black are all trying with what they work with and I found them entertaining enough to find this movie completely average for them alone.

Is it bad? Sure. But no worse than that Guardians of the Galaxy shit you dummies slurp up with a spoon...

It's not fun, it's not well played, and it's not even visually interesting.

I’ve never played the game “Borderlands,” so I had no prior connection to any of the characters—and I still don’t after watching the movie. While it's packed with action, the lazy storytelling fails to build any real connection to the plot, resulting in a forgettable experience.

This is bad filmmaking.

Roth's evidently a gifted director and material seemed to fit his ticks -- loved these games when I've played them, specially the frantic, freewheeling mix of sci-fi, post-apocalypse, shoot-'em-up, comedy and adventure --, but it obviously didn't translate well, despite the good cast. It all feels just too generic and at least devoid of any true risk, to the point we don't actually care about anything here. Kept imagining what a blast this would be if directed by PWSA with some creative control.

I watched this dreg, so maybe I'm part of the problem. Whether it was Roth's overzealous penchant for violence or Millner's tepid attempt at to water it down for studio approval, Borderlands is a truly bad film. From excessive narration, to a floundering cast that has no cohesion, to terrible CGI that makes the Matrix Reloaded seem acceptable, to a simplistic plot in a crude world...nothing is entertaining.

I don't play the game. It's still bad but it's not as bad as what a lot of people are saying.

Thhhhhhhrrrrrrrrppppppppppp. What a wet fart treatment of the game and it's universe. I hoped we were past the era of treating games as set dressing to a bland, generic plot but here we are. In fairness, Borderlands has a lot more lore and background than actual story, but come on. And you made Jack Black unfunny. Wretched.

What a horrible derivative script with predictable unlikeable generic edgelord “antiheroes” being senselessly rude & stupidly violent to prove how tough they are. It’s one of those glib, “we’re just having fun here” pathetic excuses for a story that’s sort of in vogue lately, where trite snark is treated as an acceptable replacement for both pathos & actually solid joke writing. Evidently, Cate Blanchett is not a deity. 😅 We all wondered? Cringe that she accepted this & played it as such.

Absolute garbage, extremely boring and quite bad cgi

To get the most out of this movie, you need to be a fan of the game. As you can see, I knew nothing about the game. A lot of fireworks here and there, running without a point, and characters that are of no interest.

Honestly it wasn't that bad. Yes, it's only average, but I expected far worse. Ps. I'm a fan of the game series and I have played all related games.

Embarrassing.

Un film pour les fans de Cate Blanchett, pas pour les fans de Borderlands. Eli Roth adore son actrice et voulait lui offrir un rôle de femme forte dans un univers pop de science fiction. Je pense que cette mission est accomplie, pour ce qui est de faire plaisir aux fans de la franchise, il y a encore du boulot. Mention à Jamie Lee Curtis qui va recevoir son premier Razzie.

Above all else, a movie needs to entertain. This entertains. Is it the best version of Borderlands? No. It could have been more violent, stylish, the jokes could have landed more, could have gone more over the top, especially with the guns since Borderlands is gun porn. But despite weird Blanchett/Hart casting, they both try. Black, Greenblatt and Munteanu do well! The action's fine. It didn't overstay its welcome, decent pacing. It's too competently made to deserve the vitriol it's getting.
