The progenitor of the endless barrage of black yuppie romantic comedies featuring some combination of Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, and Tyler Perry. Shockingly, none of them are in this one as it was just a few years before their time...

Criticker thought I would pan this movie, but I rather enjoyed it. It's a star studded cast with an over-the-top but funny Grace Jones, a charming young Halle Berry and a believable chemistry between Murphy and Givens. Not everything worked, but there was enough there to get plenty of laughs and enjoy at least one viewing.

The role-reversal midsection of Boomerang is by far the film's strongest act - clever, funny, with the lion's share of Grace Jones - and in a large way makes up for the slow start and humdrum conclusion. Givens is perfectly cast for her role and has better chemistry with Murphy than Berry, whose character's prominence in the final third is slightly puzzling. Passes the post, barely, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

At the time, Boomerang was a change of pace for Murphy, a perceived step towards 'maturity'. Hudlin was also looking for a career change, and the result was a somewhat awkward mix of lowbrow humour and 'grown up' attitudes towards sex and love. There are a few good lines, and Jones is very amusing as a crazy model, but it is hard to become too invested in Murphy's relationship problems when he is forced to choose between Halle Berry and Robin Givens. Some dilemma!

An interesting slice of early 90s black cinema. Not really as funny or intelligent as it yearns to be, but ponderous and frustrated by a lot of things. Kind of an interesting window into a different world.

Pretty good romantic comedy with a strong cast. Eddie Murphy is in his element here. The plot and comedy drag during the last thirty minutes or so, but the first half is hilarious. Worth watching.

This movie is better than many people think. Funny, witty and very very sexist. Gotta love it! This movie is packed with some of the best afro american actors of it's time. The conversations between Murphy, Lawrence and Grier are almost Tarantinoesque, Hally Berry is sweet and loveable, Chris Rock is funny as... well Chris Rock, Grace Jones is a perfect cast as an insane model and Eartha Kitt is just grrrrrrrrrreattt rrrrrrrrrrr...

This is Eddie growing up a little...and it kind of blows. At least he falls in love with Halle Berry, who's elf-ishly cute, like a half-African American Audrey Hepburn.

Good phase of Eddie Murphy, some parts are funny. But still, it is not a great movie.

Aside from the exchanges between David Alan Grier and Martin Lawrence, there isn't much here to go running through the alleyways proclaiming love for.
