Boefje

Boefje (1939) was Douglas Sirk's last movie in Europe before skipping the continent and becoming a highly respectable director in Hollywood. A film about Dutch rascals of the slum. Specifically Boefje, a boy played by female stage actress Annie van Ees and it's one of the best cross-dressing performances I've seen! Could probable have done better with the story for a stronger emotional and comical effect, but the look and feel makes Boefje a alluring European curio.
