Each Pod People film hinges on how well it combines current societal anxiety with sci-fi horror. This one does the mix splendidly as it at examines a 90's teenager whose dad fears he's lost her to sex, alcohol, and rock music. The visual explanation of the alien replacement is cool, as is the drama of a kid figuring out if her distant father has been replaced. The ending missteps slightly, with a final shot that's the epitome of 90's scary movies. Still, it's fun & superior to the 70's version.

I hadn't seen this one since it started playing on cable tv, but it's just as good as I remember if not better. Ferrara, Cohen and Stuart Gordon all had a hand in making a movie as good as it is. Very underrated!

This is a BEST OF for the pod people story and even better it's less than 90 minutes so it gets to the goods right away and I aint' hootin about Meg Tilly but the deep psychological terror it plays with. The little boy KNOWING from the start "that's not mommy". Forrest Whitaker blows his stupid head off and gives the role the same nuances he gives every role : none because he's garbage and the only thing wrong with this movie.

"That's not my mommy!" I was not exactly surprised to see Larry Cohen and Stuart Gordon in the writing credits, but I was, however, pleasently surprised at the tension and terror generated by Ferrara. It's inferior to its two predecessors (both classics), but highlighted by great use of light/shadows, tilted camera angles and some truly eerie scenes, where you're left guessing who has been cloned and who has yet to be cloned. But wtf was Forest Whitaker doing?!

Of course its not as good as the original, but this is an incredibly underrated movie.

This is the last film to give me nightmares, and I saw it during its one-week theatrical run. Etched upon my memory forever. "How I hated THEM!"

The scene where Meg Tilly says "Where you gonna go?" creeped the hell out of me. They also made the scream scary again.

Claustrophobic remake with some well-written human scenes that peak in one of the all-time great movie moments when that spine-tingling scream is heard for the first time. But at that point we're already fifty minutes in, and the finale is rushed and unsatisfactory.

Ferrara made spiritual what Kaufman made satirical what Siegel made political: The invasion hasn't been thwarted, it's merely waiting on the right filmmaker every twenty years for passionate revision. Were there to be a "re-remake" of Jack Finney's pulpy source who better to attempt it than Ferrara, the hysterical director of Bad Lieutenant, King of New York and a slew of other overwrought films? I mean, discernment and restraint are the last things a third Body Snatchers required.

A bit of Terminator 2 here -- apocalyptic mood, female voice-over, cinematography -- a bit of the Thing there -- similar plot-line and guessing game of who is It. Borrowing from other films helps make this more entertaining, yet it's far inferior to those sci-fi films. It's ridiculously easy to tell who's not human, which makes me feel much smarter than these characters. And I'm getting pretty tired of non-romance films establishing romantic sub-plots. Cool creature effects, though.

I was prepared to hate it but, instead, was only pleasantly disappointed.

A solid addition to the series. I originally watched this before the 1978 version and was a bit confused with the differences between this and the 56 version but now I know this is more of a update/sequel to that film than to the book or original film.

This is Ferrara working in Hollywood, and not a bad, spoiled Ferrara: he has to follow some studio agenda, of course -- the romance is absolutely silly --, but it's interesting to notice how he deals with a horror film that doesn't need to be graphic or explicit. I guess the director has never been so subtle -- and so precise with pace -- as in this Body Snatchers.

It seems like the best actors are consigned to supporting roles, but I still like this movie. I still prefer the '78 version, but this does a decent job with the premise.

If you didn't know before Stuart Gordon wrote the screenplay his fingerprints are plastered all over the movie that you could probably guess. Ferrara's idiosincracies help accentuate the creepy mood while making for the eeriest and exhilarating snatching sequence i've seen so far.

Did you know that it's possible for Bodysnatchers to be both underwhelming and underrated? Because it is. No need to cross swords. Bad ending, bland acting, but great practical FX, some genuinely effective horror and one of the funniest green-screen deaths you'll ever see. It's worse than previous incarnations, but it's not bad. I mean hell, how many films have you seen that are not only good, but also boast two worthwhile remakes?

Flawed, but still really good. Meg Tilly is terrifying. Gabrielle Anwar is stunningly beautiful and does a fantastic job. Also, the cinematography is extremely good. Not to mention the fact that these films leave one with a lot to think about. ...(read more)It doesn't really compare to the 1978 version, but is still great.

SPOILER: Ferrara's Body Snatchers was originally meant to be directed by Gordon, who co-wrote the script with Paoli. It's a shame because his version might have been more fun and interesting than Ferrara/St.John's dreary by-the-book adaptation which adds nothing new to the story other than the army base setting which they possibly inherited from Gordon/Paoli. Anwar is a complete charisma vacuum, and the only decent performance is from Tilly, who is quite creepy when she 'turns'.

The worst of the three versions of this Finney classic, but still interesting. Updated to a Gulf War era army base.

Not a terrible re-make, but not one that did much new with the classic story either. Inferior to both the 1950's commie cautionary tale and VERY inferior to the 1970's classic.

Assuming everyone saw the earlier Body Snatcher movies, this completely dispenses without any explanations about the pods and what they do and instead moves full throttle forward as our heroine desperately tries to escape from a terrifying, increasingly impossible situation. Several unexpectedly grim plot twists for a '90s movie and a brilliant performance by Tilly as Anwar's young stepmom add to the enjoyment.

O feito de realizar uma terceira refilmagem e torná-la equiparável ao cultuado original de Don Siegel é tarefa árdua. Indubitavelmente há uma simbiose entre as imagens de Ferrara e os textos de Nicholas St. John, sempre que se encontram.

Not the wild and beautiful paranoia nightmare of the 1978 version, but a damn fine sci fi suspense thriller nonetheless.
