A morose film about a death-obsessed F1 driver who befriends a beautiful but kooky and terminally-ill woman. Effort was expended to obtain actual racing footage, but the filmmakers have no interest in motor sport, and even the romance is just a pretext for unconvincing existential ruminations. The screaming scene clearly indicates that something has gone badly awry, and when we reach Pacino’s Mae West impersonation we have no choice but to conclude that all judgment has been irretrievably lost.
