Hey, did Wang and Auster tell you they have famous friends? Because they have famous friends.

Vignette driven piece is somewhat typical of the loosely structured 'hip' ensemble films pushed by Miramax et al. in the 90's. It is also a reminder of a time when New York was still a thriving cultural capital whose boroughs were beginning to gentrify beyond recognition. Pieces like this seem 'old world' today, made in a time when America's global dominance was assured and fascination with their culture was always assumed. Some of the scenes are amusing though, and it passes the time.

Somewhat forgettable sequel that doesn't live up to the original.

If Jane Jacobs lived in Brooklyn instead of Greenwich Village, this film could be the cinematic representation; the film has no story, but moves from one situation of people talking to another, like a movie with several vignettes; like similar films, some situations are amusing others fall flat; ultimately the film is about Brooklyn and succeeds at capturing a sense of place; liked the music and the closing credits (for some reason). ps60

Basically just the Park Slope version of Slacker, but with a bunch of superstars who don't really fit in at all. It seems like a bit of showing off, but there's enough inspired stuff (anything Lou Reed says, Michael J Fox wearing jorts) that it doesn't feel like a complete waste. It could have used more of the "love letter documentary" stuff, though.

It's a hilarious, all-star, human film. Harvey Keitel is excellent in the leading role, while the supporting cast is also notable (particularly Madonna, in her most memorable role). Nostalgic, sweet, funny, "Blue In The Face" is simply great.

Just a long way of telling people to stick it to the man, really.

Apart from an appalling turn by Madonna, the cameos and characters keep this interesting.

There's some solid acting by everyone involved but I really liked Michael J. Fox and Harvey Keitel. The documentary style parts are pretty interesting, talking about life in Brooklyn. It's not a flashy movie and it's cool that it's mostly improv. There are some funny parts too but it's not overly hilarious.

Decent, but too improvised and incoherent. "Smoke" was quite different and way better.
