Blue Bayou

A let down given the premise and the cast. Not because of the depressing reality, but the whole cop plot was just ridiculous and I dislike that they rehabilitated the white baby daddy cop. The story with Pham didn't really feel connected. The film was shot in a nice vintage style, though overall the film was more style than substance. Fav scenes: arguing in the kitchen before Vikander left; meeting his adoptive mother and realizing sometimes people just don't change.

Considering it was written, directed and starred in by Chon it's a very impressive accomplishment. It's a well told story, but not without some lapses in pace. Vikander strengthens it and young Jessie was a standout. Disliked the dirty cop angle. Very emotional. 7.2

Parts of this movie hit really hard. Really really hard. That's not to say don't watch it, just be prepared for emotions to overcome you. Chon and Vikander are phenomenal as the tension builds and the inevitably sinks in for the characters. It's raw, gritty and in your face. It pulls no punches, in fact it hits again before you are ready. Then to cap it all off it reminds you that this is very much real and based on real people who found themselves suddenly leaving the only home they ever knew.

Some good scenes, but the whole thing together is horribly paced.
